I’m going to leave my donation in play. It won’t break me so if it’s used to buy an extra bottle of Xanax so be it.

Families don’t always write the obit — often the funeral home will help.

honest question

why did Eric not reach out to you (or you to him) for assistance with the funeral arrangements prior to asking for money here? I assume your first choice would not have been to pay for it all yourself however that’s what you wound up doing anyway.

I paid for the funeral of one of my employees whose family was similarly incompetent but I paid the funeral home directly based on an invoice from them. And yes they held up the obit until the bill was paid.

I feel like the goodwill of this place has been abused regardless. Perhaps at this point the best thing for all involved would be to abandon the donations and have GFM return the funds to the contributors

I looked back at OP's history to see if he mentioned his dad dying at the date the obit of the man listed as his father with grandchildren the same as the woman's children. It does:

So this leaves two possibilities to me: either the OP is in fact an addict and in big trouble, or someone is making a play on this poor situation and the real OP is none the wiser.

FWIW, people do believe you. I don't think anyone is doubting that this woman died.

Well, I doubt any scammer thinks of themselves as a scammer. Not that I'm accusing you of being one. I'm just saying.

You already said you won't be the person in control of the funds, so it doesn't really matter. We appreciate the updates, but I imagine most people's concern at this point is that $20k is going to be blown on drugs and the poor children involved will be screwed.

Ole Sonya might even sincerely believe in her own heart that they won't use the money for that, but .. I don't believe that will be the case all said and done.

The children will be the biggest losers here. Very sad.

Her address is coming up in a different town, Attalla, which is 10 miles from Glencoe. Definitely not a luxurious home.

I can assure you, DiamondDog got quite the yelling for having yet again given money to strangers on this website without discussing with her (all this after I rescinded donation and relayed this story).

My wife wouldn’t give y’all two nickels she found on someone else’s lawn.

It is very unfortunate. I've been on this website since I was 18 years old and know a ton of posters IRL at this point. (The OT girls and I legit have a group chat we use all day long)

Even the people I don't necessarily know IRL but that I've interacted with for years, I would say I care about their well being.

Because of this, we can no longer help our own when they need it. Pisses me off.

And we've seen the writing style of the sister so maybe it's best that the funeral home handles the obit.

Grief-stricken people may reach out to anything they can to find solace.

This whole situation is incredible to watch unfold. I don't regret donating, but I will probably be more hesitant in the future.

This is Bluefin’s wife. Bluefin got locked in a hot car and didn’t know how to get out. He spent all our money on cam girls so now we can’t pay for his wish of his corpse being trebuchet’d into space orbit.

I have Venmo if anyone wants to help out.

I don't know, but I can guess he never expected the kind of response from some wonderful people on this board. I hope you understand he's an emotional wreck, who wouldn't be under the same circumstances?

I can't read any more. My heart hurts, there are some really good people here, but I can't read about how awful somethink they/we are. No one is perfect, I know I've made plenty of mistakes, especially when I was young. I will say this, if the table were turned and someone else on this board needed help, Eric would step up, too.
We have lost a family member that meant a lot to many, especially her mom and kids.
To those that genuinely care, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please pray for our family.

The best answer is usually the simplest. I actually believe that almost everything we have been told by Commander and others in the family is true. I think his wife did die from a surgery and they are certainly without money to bury her. I think Commander started a gofundme expecting to get a little money out of it, logged off, went on a drug bender, and went to the ER. He then got lucid enough to comprehend that he had 22k sitting in gofundme. He then tells relatives about the money and they start flocking in. Commander then goes on another bender and Sonya and her boyfriend take him in now that he has 22k somewhere. Sonya starts calling gofundme and they won't give her the money because she is not the beneficiary of it and the account has been flagged due to so many refunds requested. Sonya then makes Commander log in to tigerdroppings and give her his phone. She starts posting under his name thinking she can somehow convince us to get the money released from gofundme, and makes the situation worse with her terrible manners and lack of appreciation.

I'm confident Commander is a drug addict on a bender. I don't know if Sonya is, but I do know that she has been incredibly rude and ungrateful to the people who raised 22k for her sister. Therefore I can't trust either of them to be responsible for disbursing my donation to the funeral home and children and I asked for a refund. Simple as that.

We have all lost people close to us and I doubt many of us think of finding a medium at all much less 3 or 4 days later.

To each their own, though.

I simply posted it because it adds to an already crazy story by a group of seemingly crazy people.
