A guy who's posted here for years and probably knows a few people IRL, it would be the dumbest of the dumb to bring a scam here.

If a prominent poster starts a thread with a GFM about my brother who has covid, don't trust it and assume it's a scam. He's fine.

That's all I can say at this time.

I give cash to beggars more here lately and my wife tells me not to because it could be a scam. I tell her that if they are lying then that is on them. My conscious is at least clear.

I am usually skeptical of that stuff too but not as much this year. Lake Charles now has a small tent city of homeless people from the storms. One story I saw was about a young couple living in a tent where their home used to be and they have a fairly newborn baby. That was just last week I read about it. I think some people have stepped in to help them now, though.

In the 10,000 page COVID thread, in April or so, he was apparently the first among us to end up in the hospital for COVID. Didn’t ask for a dime that whole time. Mentioned bad decisions probably contributed to his hospitalization and it wasn’t worth locking down for.

Seemed legit scared and dependent on the support here, but (relevant to this thread) didn’t ask for anything,

I haven't seen anyone piling on him. All I have seen is people being skeptical which is natural.

BUt in a thread where a guy is apparently mourning his dead wife, its tacky and shows a lack of class.

No offense but if I were mourning my wife that passed just 24 hours ago or less then posting on TD would be the last place I would be.

I agree it’s kind of tacky - but what if this guy really has no one else and doesn’t have enough for a funeral? The funeral homes aren’t going to help, if they offer help, like financing, he may not qualify or it may be through the roof. Plus he has to buy a plot, too.

There are many, many people in this world who have nothing - friends, money, or help. If TD is the only place he can turn to, I’m happy to have helped.

I hope the man is not lying, although I know most of us are more than aware that people lie constantly.

Oh so like I said you brought the info to the board. Not me.

I brought an anonymous piece of info to the board about riot control gear disappearing.

And suggested ways a legislative auditor might track the fraud/apathy which lead to over 100k worth of equipment being transferred to podunk little police departments.

The information was a breadcrumb that ultimately lead to the problem being fixed and the right persons taking the blame.

You were so focused on how someone might be in possession of said information that you focused entirely on the source. ...and almost caused a father of four to lose his job/retirement. Something that wasn't known to me until well after the situation had resolved itself.

At best, you're a hypocrite. At worst, you sought to take some minute pleasure in exposing someone making an effort to correct longstanding corruption.

I am glad TD.com helped OP out if it is all true.

Side sotry:

My friend tells his wife not to claim his body if he dies that way the state of CA has to bury him. I would like to think he's joking but he isn't. Guy is a multi-millionaire yet refuses to have his wife pay for his funeral.

There are quite a few people here who genuinely have some social issue and are addicted to drama.

I feel we are at risk of drifting off topic in this thread.

Still sounds like you are blaming me for your mistake. Sounds to me like YOU almost caused someone to lose their job by sharing info you shouldn't have. Who is the hypocrite again?

No. Not for real.

I have no idea what he is even referring to. Could be a lie for all I know. Maybe even mistaken me for Tigahrag who did those things regularly

Thank you, sweet friend. He has me in fits myself. He has been so stoic and brave and has assured us he is through the worst of it. You'd never know he was ill except for our pestering. Such an inspiration.

Imagine how this guy is going to feel when he wakes up tomorrow to find out that the validity of his very real tragedy is being questioned because of his prior drug use, which I’m sure he is already not proud of, just so you can feel comfortable donating $20 to bury his deceased wife.

Put yourself in those shoes for a moment.

Unfortunately, the power of the OT is a double edged sword today

Stout is not the guy asking the questions. I am.

If you want blame somebody tomorrow, start with me. I’ll probably join you.

FWIW, the guy could be clean as a whistle and I would still be skeptical. I am cynical by nature.
