I went deeper than that. He even created a thread about his wife's upcoming surgery. They're linked in online obits, etc.
I could go on and on, but if it's a scam, it's one hell of a long game scam.

This is truly heart breaking.
My Dad used to say, "If money can solve your problem then you don't have a problem." You have a lot of true problems right now so don't let your finances add to your unbearable stress level. Offload as much stress as you can on God. Concentrate on your kids and yourself.

Facebook will show results for “Carrie” instead. At the top, under the search bar, there’s an option to “show results for Carri instead.”

To the OP, I don't even know what to say man. I will say lean on your good friends and family, that is what they are there for. Be there for your kids and consider getting some therapy, even if the insurance or money is not there you can find help if you try.
This may seem cruel, heartless, and typical of the POS attorney I am (the OT rule) but sooner rather than later is potentially important. The preservation of evidence can be key here and the clock is ticking. There is no way to know if anyone did anything outside the standard of care but if they did it is in your best interest to preserve the evidence. You can mull the thoughts of your personal morality about this in the future but leave your options open now.
Again, my thoughts are with you and while bullshite platitudes are bullshite I am deeply sorry for your and your family's loss.
