If it were chambered there would be no "racking" to scare off the perp, dildo. You'd just go boom and he'd be dead.
Actually, if the SOUND is what he's using as the deterrent (which is why I would guess the poster I was referring to talked about the sound instead of the spread pattern, etc), the SOUND of racking in a round would communicate to said intruder, "I have a shot gun. That sound you just heard means that I am awake, with a shotgun and a really good chance at having a shell in the chamber."
But I'm sure you 13 down-voting tacticool baws really want an engagement where you "git to shoot dat sumbitch."

A thread on Glocktalk was about home alarm systems. One guy said his family sleeps on the second floor, and his stereo on the first floor has a CD on repeat with the sound of a racking shotgun every 30 seconds.
I keep a Springfield XD .45 by the bed. There is a Ruger GP100 .357 in a cabinet in the farthest room we might retreat to and hole up.

You like it? Been seriously considering one. What barrel length did you go with?

Baretta 92FS with hollow points. Don't want any going through a wall. Still have my 15 round magazines.

Amen, Chad. Guess where I am. And if you have busted into my house and I have anything to say about it, you're going to be a dead son of a bitch. End of story.

Yes. It shoots fine. It's built like a tank, so it has reduced recoil. Full .357 loads will lay down steel plates with authority. 4" barrel.
Mine is stainless, and it can be a pain to get all the soot off the face of cylinder after a day of shooting. Lead Remover/Polishing cloths will do the trick, but it takes more than a wipe.
