Where do you see "best home defense"? The thread is about what's preferred. People prefer different, not necessarily best. It might be the weapon that they've handled the most and feel the most comfortable with. It might just be something that they bought and love, and it works.

H&R Pardner 12 gauge. $200 bucks, and it's an 870 clone, but heavier. Can't beat it for home defense.

I can't keep a 12g under the bed or readily available bc I have a 6 y/o daughter that is quite the little deviant.

And if your intruder is armed, and you failed to rack a round in the heat of the moment as you are dazed coming out of a dead sleep, and now you have a less than desirable baseball bat in your hands to prevent your family from being raped and murdered.

Springfield XDm 9mm on the nightstand. 80lb boxer dog at the foot of my bed and a safe full of shotguns and rifles. The wife packs a M&P Bodyguard 380 just in case.
