morgantown has no umbrellas unless you bring them yourself. no vendors of any kind on the beaches. you can set your chairs and umbrellas up when you get there and pick them up when you leave a few days later. on july 4, everyone shoots fireworks on the beach

Why? What is it about Watercolor that interested you.
Not knocking it, but knowing why you liked there might help recommend somewhere else.

If you have kids, this is the place to be. Yes, it's in PCB, but the resort is amazing. The kids have activities provided by the resort all day everyday and can choose to do what they want when they want. gives parents some time to get away. they play movies by the pool at night. have karaoke. live bands and dj's all day by the pool. can't say enough about it if you have kids.

Go to seaside
Seaside is miserable crowded these days. We vacation on 30A but I do everything in my power not to get anywhere close to seaside because it's awful these days.

We rented a pimped out house on the beach in Seagrove for later in the sumer. Not planning on leaving it once we get there, except to get some fresh seafood to cook.

This is the way to do it. 30A is beautiful but is not like it was 10 years ago. It is very crowded now. If you can find a good house with a "private" beach that is not close to a public access, you're good to go.

Alot of what goes into finding the best place for your family on the beach is what type of stuff you like to do and how big your group is.
Generally speaking, we cook and eat in our rooms every night, hit the beack no later than 10 am and stay there until about 3. Then we hit the pool till it's time to cook for dinner. Repeat that every day.
Sometimes the guys will go for a round of golf, the occasional trip to the store, but no water parks, shopping and we never go out to eat.
For us, the proximity, cost and value we get at the Beach Club in Fort Morgan. There is only one other resort near there (Gulf Shores Plantation - about 1/2 mile down the beach) so it never gets too crowded even during the peak times.

I wouldn't buy another house on the gulf coast even if I were flush. I like where I live more than any of those little cities anyway. Florida is way, way down the list of states I'd like to own property in.

Have you been to sandestin?
15 story condo buildings 3 deep then more on the bay side that all share the same 300 yards of beach
rental chairs lined up 5 deep

We gave up on Destin/30A about five years ago. I got dat honey hole now, but it is more of a drive for the LA/TN/MS crowd. Fewer trashy people and no mini golf.

Beach Club in Fort Morgan
We rented a bay side house last week in FM. Went over to the Beach Club for drinks one night. We like the area. I took my boy on a couple of hikes which he enjoyed. We like hanging out on the private piers on the bay side, and just being in our own place, even if it is a rental.

The Ft Morgan area is so secluded that people only go there if they want to be there, which is why I like it. You've got the fishing aspect from the day trips down at the marina's, the houses,t he two resorts and a couple golf courses but no shopping and very little dining makes it perfect for us.
Since they opened up the roads on 180 about 10 years ago now, the traffic in/out rarely takes more than about 15 minutes.

not in over a decade.

sounds absolutely miserable. I can't imagine why anyone would pay $$ for this.

Yep. Head east of PC about an hour.

No, it does not. Depending on the tide and rain fall, there are days you cant see your feet in 3' of water.
Everywhere from Destin to 30A is going to be crowded and with gas prices being so low, disposable income is going to make this summer more of a cluster than last. You want less crowds, head over to Port St Joe, but there is a reason St Joe is less crowded and that's because there isn't much commercialism.
