I haven't worked on my birthday in years.

Like Bobby Brown said, "It's my prerogative."

I've done it when my birthday is on a Friday. Three day weekend, baw. Take a nice ride somewhere close and get a room for a couple of nights. Why not?

I never work on my birthday. I always make my schedule in advance to where I'm off for my birthday. I don't need to make a big deal of it, really just like having the day to do whatever the hell I want. My husband will take off work that day as well and spend the day with me. I do the same for his birthday.

Oh.

Sorry.

I seldom read tangerine's entire posts since he usually is just a race baiter.

My bad.

Last year on my birthday I had absolutely the worst day of work for my birthday.
Wife and kids had a cake and candles ready for me when I got home, but I didn't get home until around 9pm. Just in time to go with my wife to bring my daughter to the emergency room with a high fever. Got home around 1am and as soon as I got out the shower, I got called out to go back to work. Didn't get back home until around 4am.

This year I scheduled a vacation week for my birthday.

I stopped that practice, quite a while back.

problem is, society usually brings it up to my chagrin

I don't want free ice cream etc, it's just another day
