Growing supply of marijuana in Colorado leads to lower prices

The price of marijuana bud has dropped more than $400 per pound in Colorado this year, according to a state Department of Revenue report released on Wednesday.
The average price for a pound of marijuana bud was $846, based on sales from marijuana cultivation facilities recorded between Feb. 1 and April 30. It's the first time the price has fallen below $1,000 per pound since recreational marijuana was legalized in 2014. The report specifically tracks the sales from suppliers to marijuana dispensaries and product manufacturing facilities.
The state is closely monitoring marijuana production to prevent an oversupply, Colorado Department of Revenue executive director Mike Hartman said in a news release.
At the start of 2018, the average price of marijuana bud was $1,265 per pound. The most it's ever been, according to data from the state, was $2,007 in January 2015.

Yeah I’d love to know where you’re getting a $53 ounce.

Well damn, so much for that farm diversification I was thinking about. $847 a pound is hardly worth the effort. I'll just stick with 85 cent cotton.

That is not true and hasn’t been since it was first legalized

Yeah, supply and demand. Lot of people think they're going to get rich growing when it's legalized. Not going to happen unless you have significant capital and can launch a pretty damn large operation.

I'd love to see data on what industries/firms are seeing a fall in demand as marijuana consumption is increasing.

As would I. Don’t know why you got a dv. I think that would be really interesting data to look at. Sociologically, at the very least.

It was true for a year or so after legalization here in WA but not anymore.

Lol! If you go during happy hour to some of the dispensaries you can score an ounce of shake for $38

I'm in Tacoma. I can give recs in the south sound but I don't go to Seattle enough to give any recs up there.
In Tacoma Clear Choice and Mary Mart are probably the two best combinations of price and selection. Avoid Diamond Green or Urban Bud. Both have high prices and low selection.

While this is great news and I am tempted to go find a jerkin off or cum explosion gif, I am also a skeptical bear.
What is the max weight you can buy at a dispensary? 1 oz? Joe Blow tourist from Baton Rouge is not waltzing into a dispensary and getting an lb for $846.
How much have the dispensaries dropped their prices on flower in the last 6 months?
My guess is it is similar to gas station, little to no discount

Big Pharma is probably being hit the hardest.

It's exactly why craft breweries excel in a world full of budweiser. People will still pay for quality mj. Like the kind flowered beyond only 8 weeks, when they're 10 week strains. Thc % starts to drop off late, late flower so they pick that shite early just for the numbers, whilst ignoring the fact 50-75% amber trichome pot is infinitely more enjoyable to a lot of people. Then there are those who love a good 14+ week haze, that no commercial facility would touch due to flowering length.
