I went. No Goatburgers. My wife (no pics) asked one of the committee members why. She stated they buy the meat from Greece. Shipping has gone up so much they would have been really expensive.

Went last night and it was lovely as always but super duper packed. I thought they had a better system this year for some things like a to go baklava tent.

The food lines were outrageously long.

Going again this evening though.

Took the family last night. Stayed for the Hellenic dancers and came back to BR.

Sorta sad the canoeing on Bayou St John went away. Also miss the 5K on Friday night. That’s what made Friday my favorite day.

Also seemed a lot more packed that what I normally expect on a Friday. Lines were rough

St Bernard Ave and Allen Toussaint, on Bayou St. John in Gentilly

I miss the Friday night race, but I understand why they moved it from the opening night. It seems like every festival is jammed these days, and Greek Fest even has a $10 entry fee.

I grew up right down the street and went to the first one which was basically a church fair with a Greek theme.

How many of you know that Vista Shores used to be a "Country club" back in the day?

I live a few blocks away and I knew it was some kind of club back in the day but not the full story.

I’m quizzing my wife on her childhood. She says the Greek church was red brick with a dome. She passed it every day on the way to Mount Carmel. Is she right?

Said all the years her mom took her to the fest all
She ever ate was baklava. What a waste.

It was a private club with swimming pool, tennis courts, sail boats, bar etc and generally speaking a fancy daycare and meeting place for the quasi-elite of the BSJ, Lake Vista and Lake Terrace. God forbid we mingle with the poors south of REL .

Yes...and just the mention of Mt Carmel evokes the mysterious wonders of my youth.
