Hoover is a strip mall hell. The schools pale in comparison to vestavia/mt brook and Day laborers line the streets. WTF would anyone live there for over all the other great areas in Bham?

I've been through there a few times but don't know much about it. Seems pretty nice, though.

I'll add Franklin, too.

Vestavia schools are solid. Would you really rather drive your kid down Lorna rd with 500 day laborers hanging out on the way to school? Their scores have suffered immensely from the number of ESL students. If you are going to buy property there spend the extra cash and buy in old cahaba heights.

It's north of Franklin and a little closer to downtown. The school system is the best in the state, great library, numerous parks and green spaces. I live about 50 feet from the 20 mile trail system where I can go running or biking and they just added another park with hiking trails. There are house per lot restrictions so you can't just jam a bunch of houses on a lot. It's one house per acre, they've allowed builder to do one per half acre as long as there is common space in the development to equal 1 house per acre.
