Allowing a younger cashier to disrespect a young Black man in this neighborhood can escalate in dangerous ways, and I wasn’t going to ignore it.

This is why online shopping and grocery delivery are my preferred method. Leave the shite on my porch and neither of us have to be a victim of disrespect.

ETA: People complain about self check out. I love it. The machine and I get along great.

Why do a lot of black people think disrespect is a green light to violence and even murder?

Because they don’t respect themselves.

So how would you respond if change you expected to receive was slammed on the counter in front of you?

This was my take from the event. 1) You engage in self-destructive behaviors if you frequent convenience stores. 2) How many times have you been in a convenience store OR the post office nowadays with whatever undesirable you have to deal with continues a conversation with some other turd only to mumble your total mid-conversation only to act flabbergasted when you ask them to repeat the total if you can’t find the register amount because of so much shite on the counter. I go without before convenience stores

You’re 100% correct. I rarely go into convenience stores. Usually it’s because I’m desperate to find a restroom or a bottle of water. Most of the time I have to wait for the cashier to finish typing a text then look at me like I came over to their home uninvited. The other scenario is they’re having a conversation on their earbuds and you don’t know if they’re talking to you or someone else. Most transactions in either scenario could be interpreted as disrespect to a white man but I don’t care. If I pissed them off by forcing them to work I’ll take that as a win.

So you agree with Gravy that since the black man was 'disrespected' violence is the answer? You really are fragile.

We need convenience store respect programs. Social workers in stores to diffuse situations.

yet the quality of retail options in our communities is still limited.

There is a reason for this and it has nothing to do with race, which I assume he is implying because he says "our communities".

I remember hearing shaq talk about how years ago Starbucks approached him about opening up a location in a majority black area. He said he didn't drink coffee and it was never a thing in his household so in his mind he was thinking "black people don't drink coffee" so he declined working with Starbucks. So they went to Magic Johnson.. And Shaq said now every time he passes by a Starbucks and see black people drinking coffee he can't believe he didn't realize black people drink coffee. My point? Businesses open up where they think they will be profitable. The hood in Baton Rouge isn't one of those places so its just stupid to say "our communities".

And if had to guess. I bet, Gary... because of this statement
quote:

I’ve been going to this store for years
probably thought he was entitled to something in some way and he was told no. I wouldn't be surprised if he said "all the money this store made off me....". His community doesn't even respect him (well there are a small percentage who do, but..)

When I came back in to ask how long it would take, I was told 20 minutes. I said I wasn’t waiting that long and asked to speak to the owner by phone. I waited. Then I looked up and saw a deputy pull into the lot. I didn’t trip — I knew I was in the right.

That’s when the cashier started fast-talking, finger-pointing, acting alarmed. Full blown Karen shite.

So he demanded to speak to the owner and called someone else a Karen?
