Government screwed up when they told us reason for masks

By telling people that wearing a mask won't protect them, but will only protect others from them, they made a critical error (assuming they want everyone to wear masks).
Because:
1) People aren't going to wear uncomfortable masks if it won't help them stay healthy
2) Most people would have no idea if they were currently infected
3) Many people don't care that it will help others stay healthy, because they are selfish.
All of the "I ain't wearing no mask, this is Merica!" posts on the O-T prove that I am correct.
If they wanted us to wear masks, they should have told it us it was to stop us from catching it. Buncha idiots we in charge.

I'm not wearing a mask in this case, either.
If the masks were that important, I would have been asked by our government overlords to wear one for the last 6-10 weeks.

I think they are a substitute for social distancing. So, if we pull back on one counter-measure, here is another to take the place.
I've been wearing one for a while whenever I go to grocery, etc. I don't wear it at home, car, etc.

The only reason they're telling us to wear masks this late in the game is they want to see how far they can go in having people follow the government like sheep.

I’d prefer the government not lie to manipulate weak minded fools. Just be truthful about what the masks can do, and let people decide for themselves.

I still wouldn't wear one even if it was for my protection. I'm of the realization that most will catch it anyway.

They're a substitute for we can't admit we overreacted. Because if they admit they overreacted, then they have admitted they were wrong. And they can't admit they were wrong because it undermines their ability to influence in the future.

Hmm. Is it possible we know more today than we did 4 weeks ago? Or that this is a substitute for social distancing? We didn't need a mask when we were told not to go anywhere, but if we are going to go somewhere, then maybe we should use one?
