I'll take 210 just to avoid the line at the toll booth.

From what I have read, the construction consortium chosen for the project (two companies from Spain and one from Canada) will be collecting the tolls, not the state of LA. Did not see if that would be indefinite.

They need to build a couple toll lanes on the basin Bridge and build a Baton Rouge bypass route to New Orleans using tolls.

Touche...yea I assume they'd read your plates and send you a bill which is what I assume happens to me in Texas.

I'd pay 20 bucks per use to get a lane on that damn thing that vehicles with more than two axles can't use.

This is the one statement in this thread that I believe 100% is true.

Tollbooth operators union ruined that. They wanted to make sure someone needed to be there to make change.

How do you explain NTTA tolls in this theory?

I dont think that's true anymore if it ever was. Every toll road I know off use the stickers or license plate readers to charge you.

Landry said while speaking at the Chamber Southwest banquet Thursday night that the new proposal will cost 25 percent less to build and will include a 15 percent equity position for Imperial Calcasieu

quote:

Landry contrasted the old proposal with the new - under the old, a large pickup truck would have paid a $3.82 toll. Under the new proposal, the toll for a large pickup truck will be 25 cents.

How much was the previous administration planning to give to their cronies if it can be changed this much?

we are going to charge just 25 cents to go over it? are we going to mail these bills? a postage is more than 25 cents. And who the hell is going to take the time out of their day to make a 25 cent payment?

You are going to need a toll tag to get the 25 cent rate. If you pay by mail it's going to be a lot more. And they will tack on an admin / statement fee.

Agreed. 210 bridge should be the toll bridge and the new I-10 bridge should be free.

Why in the world would anyone pay to take a longer, around-town bypass, vs the free straight direct line?

Industry will end up covering the cost for their perm personnel.

$15 bucks a month. Big whoop.

Yes, because those companies are fronting a pile of money for construction.

Sort of like the new Belle Chasse bridge

Are there any other toll roads on a major US interstates in the country
essentially Chicago to Philadelphia is tolled - I80 from the Illinois line to eastern Ohio, then 76 from there to Philly.
Illinois is loaded up with tolls - 88, 35, 294.
Kansas has tolls on Interstate 35
Basically every bridge in the northeast is tolled.

Also, a toll is a tax. They can say truckers will pay it and blah blah blah, but that costs gets added on to your price at the register regardless of what you're buying.

My big question that the crappy article does not address, is HOW did Landry admin get the cost down / tolls down?

Are they going with a cheaper design? Cheaper construction companies? Longer term for toll collection?

Or, has "Jindal math" re-entered the chat, where the numbers are all made up and this is going to end up costing a lot more, but hey, Landry will be out of office by then?

I am going to put this out there but what ever “pass” system they use for toll collection It must be compatible with the existing Geauxpass for Louisiana (which is a state law) and add interoperability with Texas Tags (which is a federal law that just gets the can kicked down the road like the READ ID).

Otherwise, you will have a whole bunch of Texans and Louisianans that will use that toll bill as toilet paper.

If you're coming from the west, Hwy 90 is the way to go. I don't drive to or through BR unless I really really really have to.
