Gov. Greg Abbott pauses Texas' reopening, bans elective surgeries in four counties

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Thursday morning that he will pause any further phases of reopening Texas and that he is once again putting a stop to elective surgeries to preserve bed space for coronavirus patients in certain counties that are seeing a surge of COVID-19 cases.
Abbott's latest action does not reverse any of the reopening phases he's already allowed — meaning that bars, restaurants, malls, bowling alleys and other businesses are still allowed to remain open with some capacity limitations.
“The last thing we want to do as a state is go backwards and close down businesses, " he wrote in a Thursday press release, but the "pause will help our state corral the spread."
The latest ban on elective procedures applies to Bexar, Dallas, Harris and Travis counties, which have seen a rapid increase in the number of patients hospitalized with the virus.

We already have herd immunity. A lot of people are carriers but don't show physical symptoms.

Texas needs to test less. The cases will disappear and you have to keep going. Many say it will disappear and you have to do less tests. Governor Greg needs to roll back.

Everything stays the same except for elective surgeries in 4 counties. I’m not exactly sure how much this will help or how much letting them continue would’ve hurt.

The Houston hospital that was all the talk was 70% full with noncovid patients. Getting a substantial amount of people out by again delaying elective surgery brings that number well down.
Thats certainly more than doing nothing where this is happening.

I may sound like a loony conspiracy theorist but I think we're missing how much the Texas energy sector downturn will affect Abbott's actions. There is still a shite ton of PPP billions to be passed around. When the sector constituents start dialing congressmen again soon I expect to see some guidance from Austin that smells like shutdown but in sheep's clothing. Fed money will pour in but not directly to the voters who eat this shite up like good little boys and girls.
