Man i am gonna tell you this, you don't want a (gout) uric acid kidney stone, I had to have a procedure to remove one it was 9mm and stuck. Get on Allopurinol ASAP. Worst pain i have ever had.

I started getting gour flare ups around 30. Doc put me on allopurinol. I kept getting flare ups. Doc upped the dosage of allopurinol. Mine had progressively moved up. Started in my toe, then my whole foot, then my ankle.... when he upped the allopurinol it hit me in my neck. That was torture. Havent had a flare up in the 14 years since.

Gout sucks. The last time I had it the podiatrist gave me a steroid shot in the affected toe. Shot hurt so bad I thought I would puke or faint.

I've not had kidney stones (thank god, I've heard some of the toughest people I know calling for death as those frickers make their way out).
I have had gout. And it frickING SUCKS. So far, I've only seen in this thread folks with it in their toe/ankle. That is, to be clear, debilitating. It is so painful you can't fricking believe that such a small part of your body can have you in tears.
Then I got it in my knee. Then in both knees. Let me tell you that you have never wanted to die like a person with gout flair in both knees simultaneously.
That said, I was eating awfully and drinking a ton of beer. Luckily, my doc suggested allopurinol 100mg 2xdaily, and I haven't had one since. No matter what I eat/drink.
TLDR: Both are awful and should be avoided. Get you some allopurinol and live the life you were given.
ETA: I definitely cut out white sugar and soft drinks. No idea if that helped, but I don't miss 'em and it can't hurt.

Holy frick, I can't imagine.
I was pulling into Sarasota about ten years ago after a 9 hour drive and my hip started feeling some way that reminded me of a precursor to a gout flair.
I was mentally running worst case scenarios if I couldn't move at my hips: don't leave the hotel room and pay the damage deposit for not leaving the bed/couch; check into the local hospital proactively; whatever....
Luckily I had just strained my hip pushing a buddy's boat off the sandbar the previous Saturday, but I freaked out for a bit.

I have had around ten stones in my life though none in the last 8 years (Knock on wood.) I had my first gout attack last week in my left big toe area. Stones still win as to debilitating pain but it is not a knockout. I could not sleep or let a sock or anything touch that foot without pain, I thought I broke it or something when I finally saw a doctor. It was cool that the treatment is a 3500 year old medicine which cleared most of the pain quickly..
Damn man you have had ten stones? I wouldn’t wish that on nobody. I have had only one and that was pure hell!
I have to ask, somebody told me the first one is always the worst and the ones after that are not as bad because you have been stretched so to speak of the path the stone travels.
What says you? When I heard that I couldn’t believe they’d be anything but pure arse hell.

I've had both. Inherited it from my father's side. Our kidneys don't dispel as much uric acid as it should, so it creates stones and gets in the bloodstream to cause gout. My right big toe started getting sore about 15-16 years ago, and I attributed it to that toe being broken in high school playing football, and it was always a little bigger and tighter than my left toe. About 10 years ago I had a true gout attack. That crap was awful. Anything that rubbed up against that toe made it feel like an anvil was being dropped on it. In the next few months after I got it in my wrist, hip, and fingers. The main cause was high fructose syrup. I was drinking Gatorade at every meal thinking I was doing good. I cut that out and zero gout in 10 years.
To answer your question they both suck. Gout is like a kidney stone in your toe or affected joint, but I've never had any pain close to a kidney stone. Nothing can make it stop. I've had about 10 or so bad ones in my life, and they all have caused excruciating pain I can't describe.
I'm about 5'10 165 pounds. I exercise everyday, eat fairly healthy, and drink nothing but water. It's pretty much the only health ailment I've ever had, and it sucks arse. Like I said it's inherited, as my father, uncle, aunt, first cousins all on that side have issues with both.
ETA: the only time I've ever thrown up in my life save one virus 15 years ago has been caused by kidney stones. The pain is so unbearable it makes you nauseous.

Kidney stones are far worse imo. As long as that big toe doesn’t touch anything or bend it doesn’t hurt.
Kidney stones are relentless, at least in my experience.
I use a walking boot when I have gout to prevent anything from touching it. I also sleep in my recliner until it’s back to normal.

There’s a lot that can be done in your diet so that you don’t have to ever get to the point to worry about treatment.
This is not true for everyone. Some people genetically overproduce uric acid and diet has no effect.

I have had Stones for years - passed one in between flights in Dallas, pulled one out that got stuck trying to pass while at work, and had one removed - think going wrong way down a 1 way street.
I have sort of become de-sensitized to the pain now, and I have never had Gout.
until i experience something worse, Kidney Stones will always be worse in my book.

The Wife (no pics) said I was talking in my sleep last night.
She said that I was telling someone that I was going to stop drinking.
I think I was honestly telling myself.
I'm tired of feeling like shite every day for a few hours of bliss the night before.
Upset stomach, extended stomach, trouble pooping, gout sometimes in my big toe, muscle atrophy, a colon full of polyps that need to be zapped, etc.
Frick it. I'm going sober.
Until at least Superbowl Sunday.

Interesting this is so old it isn't something available in ofc supplement format.
I have an uncle that gets gout breakouts from time to time, and he says tart black cherry concentrate, and celery supplements work to maintain uric acid. Theres a supplement called "Gout Out" our something like that to help keep the UC production in check.

Not all kidney stones are caused by drinking soft drinks.
I can attest to that since I probably drink about a six pack of soda a year, if that. The last time I attempted to drink a can of Coke it felt like I was drinking Draino the way it bothered my throat on the way down.
I really don't drink much in the way of carbonated drinks with the exception of ice cold bottles of beer.

They are both extremely painful, both in inconsolable ways.
I would say the medicine is able to target the gout more effectively than the stones.
If I had to live with just one and not both, I would take gout.

My urologist was describing the procedure and I made him stop. Told him I would sign anything but did not need to hear it.

I think because too much is really bad for you and it needs to be controlled.

Red meat does not cause gout at all. This is completely false.

Stop eating refined sugar. Stop eating carbohydrates.
It really is as simple as that. It isn't hard. Don't hit yourself in the head with a hammer level of easy.
Or just enjoy the pain as so many Americans do. OOOHHH I have gout! You have inflammation because of refined sugar dipshits.
It's funny you have the only sane and real information about this topic yet get the most down votes... have to laugh at the morons saying it's red meat.

Cochine to get rid of the uric acid that’s causing the pain and inflammation.then ask your doctor allopurinol.
I’ve been on this for 30 years without any issues and no,knock on wood, attacks since.
Gout sucks!
