But a different mechanic was able to get it up and running. I ended up getting a steal.

One thing I learned the hard way like you are doing is people suck and are generally untrustworthy.

The guy doesn't know how to change a carb but you accepted his diagnosis of the problem with no question.
Sorry, but no refund for you.
Try thinking a bit before purchasing.

Ice pick the sidewalls of his vehicles tires.
When he gets a new set. Do it again.

Sounds like you’re pissed that you bought a non-working mower from an inexperienced homeowner who admitted he didn’t know how to fix it but then found out it’s actually broken for another reason.
I’m sorry baw, but this is on you. It’s not like the guy claimed to be an expert. He flat out told you he didn’t know how to replace a carburetor (which is pretty simple actually) so why would you trust his judgement?

Some of y’all might want to read the update that the OP snuck in.
OP might want to edit the subject line and initial post.

Small claims court.
That might end up costing him even more money. He bought it knowing it didn't start. The guy told him why it didn't start, but he sent someone over there who he says knows more about lawnmowers than he does. So he was trusting the person he sent to look at it and not the person he bought it from.
And it seems like the guy he sent to check it out was just going by what the guy who sold it told him word, which he could have done on his own, so what was he expecting the person he sent to do?
It would be too big of a risk to bring it to small claims court and even if he wins he will still have to pay a lawyer right?

Maybe you can sell it to someone else for 800.

It appears he was able to get it fixed and have been using it for a few weeks. He posted that several pages back.
He mentioned early on in the thread that it was not fixable, which seemed highly unlikely. Like anything else, it takes someone who half arse knows what they are doing to do a little troubleshooting. The problem might not be worth fixing depending on how much it cost and the value of the item that needs to be fixed, but to your point, he could have likely been able to sell it to someone else.

So the person that went to pick it up pushed onto a trailer and didn't think..."mmmm, maybe I should start it and drive it onto the trailer?"

I am always skeptical of any listing that says an item needs a simple fix. If it's so simple I feel like they would have done it.
Be more careful with buying stuff like this.

This is the funniest outcome to any long dramatic thread I can remember.
