Blows my mind. The biggest problems faced by MDs and the population are related to food.

You mean consuming 300 grams of carbohydrates a day is not a good idea? But the USDA says it's a good idea. They would never steer me wrong would they? It's not as if the government is paying billions upon billions of dollars to U.S. farmers to produce grain.

OP: With your HDL decently high and Trigs low, I will bet most of your LDL is of the pattern A variety and that number doesn't matter much because pattern A is harmless. Getting your hdl over your Trigs is ideal, but not a huge deal.

Go read up on Dr. Peter Attia LINK and stay healthy. He spells out all the latest research on cholesterol and lipid panels.

Oh....and if it's 217 then that's fine too. Cholesterol is what goes to help remove inflammation, you need it to live. I think the old number was 250< to start worrying.

Add this to the list of things the government has screwed up.

Another good source is the "Diet-Heart Myth" by Chris Kresser.

So, it's a study that revolves around statin therapy?

If your HDL is 49 and the ratio of total cholesterol to HDL is 4.35, then your total cholesterol level is 214.

A little high, but not bad.

My ratio is just over 2.

The idiocy of that has been proven by more medical studies than I care to link.

Hopkins proved it false years ago.

If we totally removed the bottom part of the triangle, America would be a much healthier place.

A Peter Attia and Chris Kresser reference. Finally some sense in here

The lack of just some basic nutrition knowledge from some MDs is crazy. High carb/low fat stupidity.

Absolutely, but we won't. Too much money involved in keeping that precedent set. Just like our prohibition on drugs.

The numbers! The doc & nurses don't make any money unless they can scare the shite out of you and sell you drugs.
