In the film 'The Martian', Mark Watney uses soil on Mars to grow potatoes.
And this kind of space gardening might not be as far away from reality as it seems.
A group of scientists in the Netherlands has successfully grown crops in soils simulating the conditions on the red planet, as well as those on the moon, to prove its possible.

quote:

The researchers managed to grow the same species as on the Mars soil simulant and the Earth potting compost control after they added fresh cut grass and manure.
The researchers did not eat the crops.
'The soils contain heavy metals like lead, arsenic and mercury and also a lot of iron,' said Wamelink.
'If the components become available for the plants, they may be taken up and find their way into the fruits, making them poisonous.'

Meh, no different than the chemtrails the government subjects us to every single day.

"May" find their way into the fruits... pfft, if I'm stranded on Mars I'm going to take my chances.

I don't see why this would be good news

So what you're saying is, right after the credits roll while Mark Watney is teaching the survival class, he collapses and dies.

Damn.

There is clearly similarity. Why are we so worried about crops on Mars when there is poison injected into the air every day by our government?

I hope you aren't a chemtrail denier.

No. Sabi believes in chemtrails, or at least that there is a likelihood of chemtrails.

He's generally good to me here and I hope he wouldn't f with me.

All food is subjected to a rigorous set of tests. Metals included, usually using ICP that detects to 100 ppb or lower. Food we eat is way below these tight standards already.

Thanks, and we generally have a good food safety system. People still eat a lot of garbage, like hoho's and Little Debbie cakes that are loaded with fat.

All those snack cakes have tons of fat and refined sugar.

I had a fresh fruit salad for lunch today with a raspberry dressing I made.
