Certainly, with your history as friends over this span of time, you can be honest with them. Let them know that you value their friendship, and respect their positions on political/secular matters, but prefer to keep that separate from the relationship. If they are adults, they will understand and not be hypocrites by judging your feelings on the matter.

If they have been good friends of yours for 20 years....that means you should be able to be honest with them and do so in a way that is respectful.

Tell them that while you respect their beliefs/views...some of them don't align perfectly with yours. Explain that you want to remain friends with them but don't want to feel preached to every time you are around them. Unfollow them on facebook as well so you don't have to see all their posts but still are friends with them on fb.

Had a friend that started going to church and speaking in tongues. I called him out on it and told him he was full of shite. He denied it. 5 months later, he got tired of it and admitted he was full of shite.

Also, Christianity preaches love, especially for sinners.

This. Christians aren't supposed to beat people over the head with their beliefs just as anybody shouldn't. That's not love. I would just tell him you're entitled to your opinion but it's not something I want to talk about.

It's a self fulfilling prophecy. They drive you away with their preaching, which confirms to them they're on the right path

Where do you people come up with this moronic stuff? Christ didn't just preach love. He preached that he was the only way to eternal life. He also preached that hell is real. Being a "true Christian" means accepting Jesus as savior, not how a person loves or doesn't love.

It is clear you aren't familiar with God Word. Maybe you should change that.

It's just a phase, it'll pass soon enough. Nobody can keep that religious shite up for too long.

they post almost daily bible scripture, prayers, and anti gay stuff on Facebook. When we talk he wants to talk politics and how we need a good old white christian in office and thinks all gays and people who smoke pot are going to hell.

Why would you subject yourself to hanging out with people like this? That is the real question.

My money is on your buddy's wife caught him smoking pot and looking at gay porn. This their way of dealing with it. Get him some books on coming out and a bag of weed and leave them on his doorstep and see what happens.

It's like Fred Nietzsche said, "There are no interesting people in heaven."

Tell your friend you don't want to spend eternity with narrow-minded squares like him.

Id tell him your situation and that it needs to change or you'll not be able to hang out as much.

He probably doesn't even realize he's doing it as badly as he is. Those type of people always have their heads up their arse.

Slowly disconnect with him if he's not receptive.

Key word is just. He didnt just teach love for others, however, it is a basic tenant of Christianity. Praying for and loving your enemies or those who are non-believers is still part of the religion, it just isnt the only thing.
