That movie was so popular that they re-released it for a theatre run every 4 years. I think this was true through the 60s.

At least through the mid seventies when my mother dragged us kids to see it at the theatre in Jonesboro, LA. The wide angle technicolor was enough to hold the attention of even a ten year old boy. It was something.

I remember seeing it at a local theater during the 1974 release.

you're thinking of Band of Angels (1957), partly filmed in Plaquemine

Was that the film that was shot at the plantation that is now just columns on River Road south of LSU?

The slaves are legit the best characters in the film. Almost everyone else is a selfish piece of shite.

Melanie is nice, though.

Ashland . They restored it fully a few years back. It's on 75 in Geismar stopped in front a few years ago, passing by

The mansion was shown in several movies, including Band of Angels (1957) where it also appeared on the movie poster;[18] The Beguiled (1971), The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman (1971), Mandingo (1975), The Long, Hot Summer (1985) and Fletch Lives (1989).[

With all of her character flaws, Scarlett is the ultimate survivor. She went from a privileged spoiled brat to a "heroine" figure that kept things together when everyone around her was falling apart. She was ruthless, but given the circumstances she did what she had to do.

Bill Maher was quoting the scene where Rhett say South will lose on his podcast. He quoted the whole scene correctly word for word while toking and drinking

Clark Gable was miscast as Rhett

I agree. Nothing like what I pictured while reading the book, smiling all the time, easy going etc. He lacked a sharpness.

ok one of the best "horror" moments in film history is the soldier having his leg amputated after the battle.

In the book he's in his early twenties and has just been kicked out of West Point.

What?

It states towards the end of the book he's 45 & the book spans 12 years. How'd you come up with early 20s?
