What about the boys in blue that protect and serve us here domestically? Some of them have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Do we have to honor them and their families at every Holiday?

if you feel so inclined.
i chose to remember and honor the military. that does not mean i do not honor the fallen police officers and firefighters. The message is to remember those that have sacrificed their lives that may or may not have directly affected your life or the life of someone you care for.
there are many groups around this great country that are due a great deal of gratitude.
i chose the military because being active duty and been away during this time, i know the struggle. i also have friends that are no longer with us because of their devotion to the country and their families have to deal with it on a daily basis but it may be compounded during a holiday season that is all about family friends and togetherness.
Absolutely the Police officers and Firefighters and all public servant sof such deserve a shout out.

Airport workers
Plant workers
Ship captains
Secret service members
Long haul truck drivers
Oilfield trash

Solid post. The vast majority of people are missing people dearly during the holidays, regardless of their profession or reasons those people are absent. The life of a member of the military is no more dear to their families than the life of a gas station cashier is to theirs.

I run in honor of a fallen soldier ... Their oldest son was killed in a drunk driving accident years ago. Their only other son was Kia in Irag. They have one daughter living ... And she has 11 kids. I can't help but think that she's "making" up for the grandkids that they boys would have given them.

The cool thing about a forum is that it doesn't make people reply.
There are a few posters here that could have done better by just not saying anything.
You don't have to responded to every post, in fact the less that you respond less views and further down the page posts will go.

No one has turned this into a veterans or memorial day. All the guy is saying is that this the biggest holiday in regards to family and caring for your fellow man to remember the families that lost a loved one serving our nation. Some of you have a serious problem with the military. I suspect its because your too big of a pussy to have made such a commitment.

This Christmas, don't forget about the empty seats of the long haul truck drivers, away from their families to keep America running. Or the airplane pilots. Or the cashiers st gas stations.

Its awkward for me to watch military members solicit support/attention/discounts for their service. There is an outdated perception that we aren't paid fairly or receive great benefits. I'm routinely approached by someone wanting to pay for my meal or even give me money and I can't help but think I most likely have a higher income. A simple handshake of MUTUAL respect is what I prefer.
Lastly, I'll definitely be thinking about fallen comrades over the holidays, in my own way.
