It used to be less so yes. I don’t sit around and ask people at the bar how much they pay for health insurance.

You have to be subsidized to pay $120/month.

I mean have you seriously not watched the news in the last 5 years or read a news article? We just had a presidential election 2 years ago where this was like a top 3 topic.

I don’t care what other people pay or are forced to pay to not have it. I care what I need to pay or not pay to cover myself and my family.

I provided a data point that someone could use one day when shopping rates or selecting an employer. Nothing you have stated has provided any value to anyone.

Even though you’re in good health you gotta be careful. I fell down the basement stairs 5 weeks ago. Trip to the ER revealed a broken left scapula. Over $8,000 just for that. Then there was Orthopedic Surgeon visits and now Physical Therapy visits. I got Insurance and I’m still hemorrhaging 100’s of dollars. Out about $1,000 so far but without insurance it would be over $10,000.

Several years ago when the economy was terrible and the company was cutting back on everything, I was paying $1,000 per month for premiums for our family. And it still had like a $1500 deductible.

Health insurance to me is a have to have. Get in an accident or get diagnosed with any kind of real illness, and you would be shocked at how much it would cost you.

$340/mo for health insurance is still not that bad. Pay it.

The government believes that it's only unaffordable if it's more than 9 percent of your monthly income.

$343 a month in premium would be unaffordable if your income was less than $3,811.12 a month, or $45,733 a year.

$48,560 is the most you can make in 2019 for a family size of 1 and not get any subsidy.

You’re playing with fire not having anything. I was a healthy 33 year old when I had to have emergency surgery to remove a badly infected appendix. It only takes one surgery or one accident to bankrupt you without health insurance. Or one snake bite-

I almost died from a ruptured appendix at 14. I spent almost 3 months in the hospital. Bills were over half a million I think my dad said.

Get a sharing ministry. If you have a car wreck or something and have an extended hospital say you'll gave generational debt.

What is generational debt? Other that what the estate you leave behind can pay, your debt dies with you. Your heirs may be left with nothing from your estate, but they have no responsibility for your debts.

As a healthy about to be 32 year old, don’t go without if you can afford it. I did and was in a major car accident. Cratered the windshield with my head, bunch of staples and stitches, broke my femur, lacerated liver and kidney, collapsed a lung... Luckily, I was working and in a company owned vehicle when it happened and workers comp covered it. Would have been like 250k just for the first week of treatment... Quite the ordeal. Spent a week in the hospital. Ended up having 2 months of rehab and more surgery on the leg 6 months later. No telling what the final cost was... The helicopter ride alone was like 38k.

eta: The last time I stepped into a hospital as a patient was as a 7th grader with a concussion. Never had more than a bad cold, so I thought I was basically bulletproof too... It can happen at the snap of a finger and your world is fricked.

If you can spare a couple hours out of your day then, look into driving a bus for a public school. And I'm not even kidding.

Many school districts offer full-time benefits for part-time work. School-provided health insurance is an outstanding perk. Many retirees do it just for the insurance.

Get an HSA plan. Good for young healthy people with no current health probs. 5-7k out of pocket max so you don’t bankrupt your family if something catastrophic happens. Should be less than 150$/month

I oversee a large trauma program in one of our major cities. Almost weekly I see patients that have canceled their insurance for various reasons. My opinion is that you can only control so much and sometimes shite happens despite being young and healthy.

My advice would to at minimum get some form of catastrophic insurance for these situations. Many people do not realize the cost of medical care out of pocket and one serious MVC can cost you than you may realize.

So there is no more penalty for not insuring in 2019, but pre-existing conditions are still covered? And y’all think premiums are expensive now...
