Drink lots of water, and venture out of the resort areas to see the "true" country.

We went there on ours last year. We mostly stuck to the resort but did take tour of the coastline in a boat. Anchored right off the beach from Julio Iglasias crib and swam.

We also went swimming in a natural spring at a National Park. 62 degree water in July was awesome!

I went for my honeymoon.

Things I enjoyed:

4 wheelers
Zip line
Swimming with dolphins (thought it would be lame but they flip you and stuff, was a great time)
Snorkeling/scuba

Also our resort was great (excellence). Very lively crew and good drinks. Met several people there and hung out w them a lot of the time on the resort. Was a couples only resort.

Took a surfing trip there several years ago. Great breaks. Most of the natives are friendly and accommodating to Americans. Lots of Europeans there as well. Really didn't venture away from the beaches to see the sites....sorry!!

When I went, we took a Jeep to a whorehouse across the border. I thought about wearing a condom, but then I was like, "Hey, when am I going to be in Haiti again?!?!" LoL, good times.

There's a thread on DR about once a month on here. I assume you are going to Punta Cana.

I Honeymooned there as well. Its great.

However, I wouldn't do anything off resort without a tour guide.

We went there for ours about 4 years ago....we mostly stayed on the resort, but one day we did do a dune buggy excursion which also took us to Hoyo Azul, or Blue Lagoon.....it was really cool.
