today and leaving Houston around 11:30.. What would be the best route to take? I know traffic in BR awful, but just wondering if sitting through it is the fastest way or if there is a better way. Also, any advice for pit stops along the way? Plan on stopping in BR on the way back Sunday as well.

I10 all the way will be ok...esp. if you're leaving that early
I recommend stopping at Bergeron's in Port Allen for food/gas (ethanol free gas stations in the area)
If the I10 bridge looks REALLY bad, you can always go north a few miles to cross, but you're gonna be in 110 traffic either way

My sister (no pics) always takes 90 from Lafayette to New Orleans on Fridays to avoid all of the inevitable traffic and breakdowns on the basin bridge and the new bridge. No traffic on either route, 90 takes just a little longer.

you'll be getting into BR early enough to dodge most of the traffic.

Try Waze app on your phone...
It even shows location of cops doing radar

Your choices are to risk sitting in BR traffic, or go way out of your way down 90 from Lafayette. No matter what, you will suffer, there is no avoiding it.

I like 90 if I'm not stopping in BR

If you leave Houston @ 11:30 you will be fine, take I-10 the entire way.

You'll be ok if you leave at 11:30 and don't stop. You may hit some traffic before the bridge in BR but it should clear pretty quick after you cross it.

I'd go 90, when I'm in Lafayette and surrounding areas I always take 90 back to New Orleans. No traffic at all. A little longer distance but usually takes less time.
You should be good to take I-10 on Sunday, though.
