You show up before the hearing starts, the DA walks around to everyone with a clipboard and asks how people plan to plead and if they plan on contesting the ticket. If you do, they meet with you for a minute and offer you a plea deal or not. If you’re good with a guilty plea, they give you a piece of paper which you take down the hall to pay your fine.

Really....... You will get treated worse than the dindo that was driving around for 40 min with the police chasing him.. Bad thing is you won't have gravy fighting for you. And you're white. Shove a tube of astroglide up your arse during processing, beg for a honeybun to use as a bribe, and be prepared for the long timers to ask you for your socks.
ETA: just try and get some sort of pre-trial intervention, community service type of stuff, and pay a fine.
For the community service stuff go to Habitat for Humanity and serve it there. In air conditioning all day, and will have to do minimal work while searching out the good stuff to come back and buy.

He’s scared enough. I haven’t even needed to use my best prison rape jokes.
The money for the fine is coming out of his pocket, but as any Dad knows, money is fungible and he’ll just be asking for cash for some other thing that much sooner.
I could go with him and maybe navigate the court process with a little more savvy, but he can handle it himself. Good learning experience.
I was just curious to see if anyone knew how much it’s going to cost him.

When I got busted with one I had pay a fine, community service and if I remember correctly go to an alcohol class
