Where do I go to get my finger prints taken? Local sheriff's office??....State police?

In Louisiana, can the instructors not do it? When I had mine done in Arkansas, the instructors did it at the class. One guy was teaching the class, and the other guy was in the back calling us back one by one to take our fingerprints. I assumed all states/instructors kinda had that setup.

Yeah, don't do this. Go to LSP HQ. It's the difference between a week TAT and 3+ months. Also file everything online.

Yes, the State Police HQ.
No, no appointment is necessary.
I paid with a credit card.
Line was long, but it moves quickly.
actually took a few months for the permit to arrive in the mail, but that was a long time ago.
**Be sure to bring the certificate, and any other paperwork that you received from taking the class**

That sucks. In PA, you fill out an application, take it to the sheriff with $21, and 5 minutes later you walk out with it.

It's about the same in Alabama. Fill out the application and take it to the sheriff's office. They will call you to come pick it up and it's 7.50 per year for up to 5 years.

No finger prints, no classes.

In TN they use IdentoGo. It's basically a little kiosk usually inside all these Mom and Pop mailbox places. Took me less than 5 minutes.

I would hope your instructor covered this in class. Fill everything out electronically. Then upload all the required docs. Once you do that you will get an email to get your prints in. Go the to HQ and get electronically printed. They take cash or card. Once the background check is complete you will get an email to pay, do so and you will get your permit anywhere from 5 days to 2 weeks. If you do anything with sending in paper expect to wait 6-8 months.

Is it really taking 6 days online?
How do you pay if you do it online? I looked and there was no way to pay online and no instructions of "send payment to...." if you apply online.

Basically if you have a permit from one of the states listed below you are good to go in Alabama.

quote:

Pistol Permits ALABAMA RECIPROCAL PISTOL PERMIT (CONCEALED CARRY) AGREEMENT WITH THE FOLLOWING STATES:

Alaska
Arizona
Arkansas
Colorado
Florida
Georgia
Idaho
Indiana
Iowa
Kansas
Kentucky
Louisiana
Michigan
Mississippi
Missouri
New Hampshire
North Carolina
North Dakota
Oklahoma
South Dakota
Tennessee
Texas
Utah
West Virginia
Wyoming

quote:

The State of Alabama recognizes concealed carry pistol licenses or permits issued by other states; however, the carrier must observe all applicable laws while in Alabama. (SEE THE ABOVE LIST). Also, a person may carry or transport a long gun (rifle or shotgun) without a permit. A person may lawfully transport a firearm, including a handgun, from one state in which they are legal to possess to another state without a permit as required under Alabama law, provided the following conditions are met:

The firearm is unloaded.
Neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle.
In case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's compartment, the firearm and ammunition shall be in a locked container other than the glove box or console. Title 18 U.S.C, section 926A

I really don’t understand South Carolia’s refusal to allow for open carry.
