Nice to see we’ve arrived at the misunderstood storage replacement part of every EV thread.
I do not understand replacing a known, reliable mode of transportation with EVs, BOTH of which are built from and depend on on oil and gas or other "fossil fuels". To what benefit, economic or otherwise? EVs make zero sense.

They make no sense to you. To people who actually know what they’re talking about they make plenty of sense.

Please explain.

I'll skip past all the DOE money, sweetheart tax deals, accelerated depreciation schedules and only ask that you put a dollar figure on eminent domain for midstream. Thats a decent place to start the conversation. Stealing people's land for O&G development.

People that still commute for work and have a charging station at work is a win-win.

The work truck models that can go 400 miles on a single charge would cost over $70,000 and could climb to $85,000+ with options.

So, not much more than a ICE truck?

Electric locomotives are generally far more reliable than diesels, cheaper to operate and put out more power while lasting longer.

Not in freight service, which is the majority in the US. Diesel-electric trains have no peer when it comes to hauling stuff and as far as reliability, average diesel unit lasts around 25 years in service.

As stated, the upfront infrastructure costs have always been the tripping point.

Which was exactly my point, there is no reason to try to build in lower reliability and increase costs when EMD's do the job as it is.

A 2 pack for $170!!!

Paid $120 just for one DeWalt PowerStack battery. The smaller version at that.

my last replacements didn't even last a year, and were half that price.

I have a few 3 & 4Ah DeWalt batteries that are approaching 10 years of use and are just now showing signs that they are due for a rebuild. I use mostly 5Ah batteries, with a few 6 & 8Ah packs for larger tools or tougher jobs.

They should have looked around and taken it slower. They have time.

They should have moved to Hybrids instead of pure EV. There are so many advantages to having a hybrid. If charging stations are available fine if not pull up to the pump.

Or if you are going on a long trip (or with trucks, pulling trailer) you have the gas backup.

What happens when there is another Katrina. People always wait till the last minute, hoping it will turn and not hit them. Then there are major traffic jams. Wasnt the trip from New Orleans to Houston something like 12 hours? Fine your EV and make that mileage but not if it is sitting in traffic for hours. An EV still uses power just sitting there and there will be a bunch of dead cars on the interstate making the traffic even worse.

With a hybrid you have the best of both worlds.

The idiots who want to mandate EV's for everyone to "fight climate change" expect wind and solar to fill in for all of the new power plants they aren't building that are required to charge the things.

They are clueless fools.

are these specific to O&G or "general use" that happens to be used by O&G?

Would the eminent domain used for O&G pipelines also be used for power transmission lines and cables? May not be a good example as I have no expertise in this...

A hybrid can deliver between 25 and 50 miles and something like 60% of American driving per day is for trips under 25 miles. Yeah, hybrids make sense and many of them do not require plug-in charging.

Does the 400 mile range take in to account Ole baw sitting in his truck with the AC running while working on his laptop?
