I don’t think that there’s a genuine societal push to make kids gay. (Is that even possible?) What I see as more of an issue is that kids are cognitively immature, often desperate for a sense of belonging and eager to buck tradition, and overwhelmed by high but frequently fluctuating levels of hormones. Plenty of the kids who are coming out these days are doing it so young that they have little or no true sexual experience to draw on. They may never have even dated, period. They can easily mistake a short-lived developmental stage for a lifelong feeling, and they gravitate toward labels — the edgier, the better. So as a group they’re inexperienced, highly susceptible to social pressure, and/or just beginning a process of sexual evolution that, in humans, is usually somewhat dynamic and can last for decades.

In short, it’s not necessarily the best time to make a public and ostensibly permanent declaration about your sexual preferences.

The bisexual/trans/gender fluid thing attracts the social outcasts like the goth movement did a couple decades ago.

It gives them a tribe and they attention the crave.
