First of all you waited too late. At 10 months his sleeping habits are established. He should be napping in the crib by age 5-6 months ideally. You just have to rock them to sleep and find a position they will lay in. Lay a blanket over them, pat them, add vibration, whatever it takes. Let them cry it out.

We had the same issue. Sleeps fine at night, but hard to get to take naps. Black out curtains helped. Also have a noise machine we play. Ultimately the same thing that got him to sleep at night is what it took to get him to sleep during the day. Let him cry it out. He doesn't always go down now, but we also just skip it and try later if that happens. My son's a little older and can get by on one nap though.

Mine's only three months, but same thing. Sleeps decent for her age in the crib at night, won't nap anywhere alone. She is terrified to miss out on anything during the day though. If I open the blinds in her room in the morning (even when she's asleep) she's up within a few minutes. So make it like nighttime is my best guess.

Friend said hers started to be a lot better once he went to daycare. Is yours in daycare?

I am 100% sure you can modify the sleeping habits of anyone over 6 months old.

My son is 9 months old, and around 6 months we would put him in his crib and let him cry it out which lasted for a couple of days. Now he naps from about 9 am to 1130ish without any issues. He usually takes a morning nap and then an afternoon nap from about 3 to 4 but not all the time. Thank God he is a heavy sleeper and sleeps through almost anything but he can be grumpy when he gets awoken before he thinks it is time. My wife would rock him to sleep and then put him in the crib, but that would usually wake him up, I finally just started taking him back there when I could tell he was tired and now he has no issues.

My one month old pretty much won't sleep unless he's being held or is laying in the bed beside you. Is that normal? Quite frustrating

For a 1-month old. It's not unheard of.

My one month old is the same way except at night. Typically rock him to sleep and put him in his crib between 730 and 9. Sleeps until 8 or 9 in the morning. Only gets up at 1 and 4 for a bottle.

We started him in the crib day one to avoid this fight. Only problem is he has to be swaddled.

besides puuling curtains or shades, you may wann get a small fan, not blowing on him, but to put near him to mask sounds outside the room from disturbing him. it's kinda like a white noise machine!

For 3 months, my son slept in this. It had to be vibrating. It stayed next to the sofa and I slept on the sofa (wife stayed home all day with him, so she got a break to sleep). I was up every 3 hours to feed him, then I laid down and rocked that thing while half asleep until he was down. The day my wife was comfortable trying out the "cry it out" method was the best damn day of our life . After about an hour, he stopped crying and sleeps on his own 90% of the time since then. We can walk in, put him in the crib, and he'll put himself to sleep (at night that is).

I have the opposite opinion. I did a normal routine around the house. If it has to be quiet you are setting yourself up and little things will end up waking them up.

this. we dont stop what we're doing when my son naps. My wife will vacuum or do whatever. He sleeps right through it. He also won't sleep anywhere besides his crib. He'll go back there, grab his blanket through the slats and walk up front and stare at me to let me know hes tired.

It's good he's sleeping through the night like that. Baby needs to know a routine. Put him down the exact same time. He needs to know that's his time alone in his crib, he can do what he wants while he's in there but he needs to know its going to happen each day.

Naps we usually do it after lunch. Rock him until he's just about asleep and put him in. Even if he cries, it's his time away each day. Good one you for seeking advice, good father!

This. With our first we tried to be quiet and any sound would wake her. We literally put our twins things they slept in on each side of the TV when we got them home and they still will sleep through anything.
