Getting a random phone call from someone asking to buy your house

My coworker told me this morning that he received a phone call yesterday from some random dude that said he wants to but his house in Walker. (The house is not for sale)
The guy knew the address and what the house looked like but said that he needed a few details like sqft, how many bedrooms/baths and how old the house is before he would make an offer.
I told him that this sounds like some kind of scam.
This is ever happen to anyone here?

I have had it happen. I did not entertain it.

Probably an agent fishing for business. There was a want ad 2-3 years ago for a cold caller to find people who might want to sell.
I would make a point of never using that agent.

You should offer to sell for tree fiddy

No phone calls, at least none I've answered, but I get texts, emails and mail about it pretty much every week

It’s not a scam per se. They are looking for suckers who are in a bind to buy for pennies on the dollar

I own several properties and every couple of weeks I'll get a post card from an investor offering to buy. I just ignore them. Tell coworker to not answer calls from unknown numbers.

I get these kind of text messages all the time. Best to just block them and move on.

I get these all the time for my father’s house. I was under the impression they were shopping for older, smaller homes. Things that they could convert to rentals.

Yes. I throw out a crazy number. They usually just hang up.

I have had it happen. I told them that I use my house for living in. They said Ok, bye.

I get texts daily from people wanting to buy my house.

It’s either BlackRock, Vanguard, or State Street. I’m putting my house on the market, and I’m pissed I’ve been informed that I can’t refuse to sell to those scum fricks because it’s technically discrimination.

Happens all the time. The number they offered me was about 40% of the market value of my home.

Probably not a scam. There are firms now that are trying to get people to sell homes under market value to avoid it having to sit for sale and hassle with a realtor.
I got an offer in the mail for mine and I laughed it off. It was ridiculously low. But they are looking to prey on people that either don’t know what their home is worth, need it sold because they cannot afford it, or some economically stupid person who sees those numbers and their eyes start spinning.
The hook is, for some people, that the offer is more than likely higher than what people paid in 2008-2010 and they see the offer as an increase. In reality their home’s value has increased a lot more.
I bet a lot of deceased parents homes have been sold to these firms.
You have to consider the stupid people out there. Remember, the pet rock made someone a multimillionaire and robocallers get sales or they wouldn’t continue it.

You can take any other offer you get instead of theirs though.

I get 50 calls a freaking week.
This is one reason I think the market is so high.

He's been texting them all morning and showing me. They want him to tell them what he'd take for it. He said you called me, make an offer.

Since about 2019 I've gotten that call every few weeks. I tell them to look on Zillow, its a lot easier to find a house for sale than asking a random person.

I sold mine and still get them. They are phishing for a sucker, they don’t actually care about your particular house.
