They can try but I would think public sympathy would be on the shooter’s side.
The panhandler problem has been getting out of control in BR for a while now and my wife and I quit stopping at night in the College and Acadian areas for gas specifically because these frickers position themselves there and are extremely aggressive.

This 100%.
Really, how long is someone supposed to wait until protecting themselves/their family? Wait until they are actually physically attacked? Anyone that has ever take a gun safety class, or a concealed carry class knows that time and space are the most important things. Rarely is there much time, so when that guy removes all of the space between you....then you have a God given responsibility to protect you and yours.

Is it admissible to pull prior gas station camera footage of this “victim” or police reports involving him?
My guess is that a pattern will be shown of him being overly aggressive with people and he finally tried it on the wrong individual.

I'm surprised it wasn't someone driving a white truck. Those people are crazy. Red folks are OK in my book. He should be good.

What if he was driving a White Bronco?

I live near Atlanta these days. I'm originally from a small town of about 17,000 in east Kentucky so I've always been a little naive in this realm, but I have learned a lot over the past few decades.
I have learned that panhandlers/bums will all too often approach you with a "God is great/God bless you/Jesus is wonderful" phrase, or something similar in order to get you to believe that they are actually good people. There's always that smile on their face, but the eyes don't smile with the mouth except in those who really know their trade.
The first thing they'll do when they get near you is to extend their hand to shake yours, and once they have your hand they won't let go until they get what they want- your cash.
I no longer accept a stranger's hand on the street. I also carry whenever I'm in a large urban area like downtown Atlanta near the Georgia Aquarium or the Dome. It's absolutely necessary. Even if you're not carrying, just reaching toward your waist-line with your hand like you ARE carrying can make these assholes cut their conversation short and move on.
I'm generally a nice guy who cares about others, but I've become quite jaded in my 52 years upon this earth. If someone has legitimately fallen upon hard times, there are many routes to take in order to find help without becoming a predatory panhandler. When you approach me on the street with a fake smile and I don't know you from Adam's house cat, you can rest assured that my first thought is about how quickly and accurately I can deliver 16 rounds to defend myself if necessary. (Yes, there is always one in the chamber.)
Magilda', I think I just gave you my first upvote!

If Biden wins, yes. With much celebratory looting and burning. And Covid will magically disappear.
If Trump wins, expect twice the amount of looting and burning, followed by Impeachment Part II. And Covid restrictions will be around another four years.

Wonder if this leads BRPD/EBRSO do to anything about the panhandlers all over BR. It got better for a while, but has gone to shite lately.
Regardless of whether the shooter was justified, shite like this is bound to happen eventually when you have panhandlers in every busy parking lot/intersection harassing folks.

My guess is that both departments take a “What could I do?” stance.
About the only interaction I’ve seen with either department and the panhandlers has been writing them a ticket or telling them to move on. Yet they end up right back at the same intersections (Siegen at 10, College between Corporate and Perkins, Acadian north of 10, etc.)

What do you have against "red trucks" anyway? Did it allegedly have a MAGA sticker on it?

I hope this is the case. It may actually make a bit of dent in the problem of panhandlers in BR. I doubt it, but it may make at least a few of them think twice.
I don't live in BR anymore but go back monthly and I swear it seems worse every time I go.

Not true, SFP says it.
I read it in one of his post the other day and it really came across as try hard, but that's SFP in general.
