What are you trying to get at? I had a undiagnosed heart defect from birth that by the time I reached my mid-40s had reached a critical point that caused my to go into congestive heart failure. Once I started showing symptoms the shitty doctors misdiagnosed me as having pneumonia. It made sense to me because all I could tell is it was hard to breath when I went to bed. That was July of 2016. I’d already started gaining weight that I thought was due to getting older. Between July & Nov. I kept getting more and more sick and they kept treating me for what they claimed was a persistent case of pneumonia. They even explained the sudden weight gain as being due to the steroids and other meds they had me taking. I had no idea how sick I was until the Friday afternoon before I was put in the hospital. And the only reason I found out was a coworker suggested I go see a cardiologist. They’re the ones who finally properly diagnosed what was happening.

THATS the issue.

That's correct. But when you use your brain and acknowledge most Americans work desk jobs then go home and sit in front of the TV and have pizza or fried chicken tenders every night for dinner its extremely easy to understand that BMI is a good correlate for health and obesity for the general population.

Are things like pushups, sit ups, squats, dips, etc. where you just use your own bodyweight considered resistance training, or do weights have to be involved?

unless you are doing weighted calisthenics or using leverage to ramp up progressive overload...you arent building a ton of muscle with calisthenics. can certainly build some and those things have a place in a program that combines them with weight training. but understand less than 10% of the population does any form of resistance training, including calisthenics.

when i talk abotu decreasing leverage, think of male gymnast and how they use the rings. they use different positions that are progressively harder, this is why they are so musclular, its a form of progressive overload. well that and they do insane volumes and put lots of load on the muscle in the stretched position.

The big thing here is that if we even got rid of BMI and transitioned to something else, 99% of the people complaining about BMI would likely still be overweight or obese.

They would then rail against whatever new method was created.

All 120 of them?

I started gaining weight probably early in 2016. As I said, I thought it was due to hitting middle age and my metabolism slowing down. But the real weight gain happened between July & Nov. when I was really sick. But again, once I got my heart issue resolved and had proper medication, I shed the weight, was was almost all due to fluid retention, amazingly fast. I’ve kept it off for five and a half years and counting.

You started with a false premise. That's part of your problem

wrong...wish this myth would die

quote:

From infancy to 1 year old, metabolic rate surged until it was about 50 percent higher than it will be during adulthood.

From 1 to 20 years old, metabolism decreased by almost 3 percent a year.

From 20 to 60, metabolism didn't change.

After age 60, metabolism decreased by 0.7 percent annually

People don’t want to accept they they have a problem and the easiest way is to fight against the system/concept.

Nothing if you have the body for it.

155 can be overweight or underweight depending on factors.

41 for me. I've never been in the "healthy weight" BMI range in my life despite otherwise being very healthy.

Need to slim down some since old sports injuries are starting to show back up in middle age.

Your reading comprehension skills are bullshite. Let show you what I originally said about the status of my health…

quote:

Well my cardiologist says I’m perfectly fine for a guy my age and with my health issues. I eat healthy and exercise regularly. So I’ve got that going for me which is nice.

Read this part again…

quote:

Well my cardiologist says I’m perfectly fine for a guy my age and with my health issues.

Key part…

quote:

for a guy my age and with my health issues.

So where did I say anything about being “perfectly healthy”? I’m quite aware I in fact have some highly serious health issues. I have to take 8 pills daily due to the damage done to my organs when I was in congestive heart failure. According to my cardiologist, by all medical science, I should not have survived one open-heart surgery, much less the two I had in a seven day timespan. But I did. I was given a second chance at life. And I take care of myself. I eat healthy, I stay active, I take care of myself. In fact I’d bet I eat a more healthy diet that you do.

Definitely have good genetics. Never taken anything other than creatine and protein powder, but I am over 40 now. So I’m sure I’ll be hitting the TRT clinic in the next 5 years.
