Why any legs at all?
The two-legged versions are extremely unstable. 4 would be better than 2.
It really depends upon what purpose the robot is intended to serve.
The robot from Lost in Space was more functional than some of the modern day designs I've seen. And that show was on TV 70 years ago.

Robots utilizing a form factor similar to spiders or other “efficient” designs are not appealing to the public when used in general settings.
