I'll give you $350 for it. Deal?

I'm serious but I completely understand why you wouldn't want to part with it.
If you ever change your mind, my offer stands.....

Yup... Luftwaffe Dagger.. 2nd Generation.
Thanks for Sharing your story about your Grandfather.
Daggers were a thing then. They had lots of different makers for sure and daggers did go through modifications with time. And there were a lot of makers... And everybody had to have one... Even the youth had a knife.
If I am not mistaken. Most Daggers were for Dress, Parade etc. and I just found this. --->>> "Keep in mind guys, these things were private purchase and the responsibility of the Officer to purchase."<<<---
Hitlers SA started the uniform and Dagger Craze with their introduction of the SA Dagger in 1933. It had three or four or so models... SA, SS, Rohm ??? But they are about the same Cept the Cost and color. Brown vs. Black.
And the SA were Paramilitary. Of course the Army, Navy, Air Force and even the kids had to have one..
The "British Commando Dagger." aka British Fairbairn and Sykes fighting knife" changed 3 times.. From a smooth grip to one with groves because of the blood made it hard to handle... But it was a fighting knife and not a dagger.
I been meaning to make a thread and introduce myself. I'm a newbie here.. But I been around.
I chose my handle because I have collected WWII items stuff since I was a kid, and its really came along these past few years... Its a hobby that I enjoy... I have a little museum in a back bedroom... It's a USGI Field HQ... What they would have had in '43 N Afrika and Italy. But I collect from all Countries..
I also enjoy USA homefront items and pre-war USA as well. I thought picking this handle would help with my hobby... I dunno if it was a good idea or not.

The NAZIS would never have been able to accomplish what they did without the consent or at the very least, the passivity of the German people. Sorry, they don't get a pass in my book.

That's a Luftwaffe dress dagger. Take off the scabbard and check the base of the blade for a maker mark. They do make fakes of these but based on the pictures alone it looks authentic. Coupled with your grandpaw's story it sounds like you have a real piece.

Should let the National WWII Museum have a look at it.

I lost mine in Katrina, it was a luftwaffe officers dagger, similar to yours but also had the chain to clip it to the belt.
Grandpa got it on the bank of the Elbe River from the giant pile of weapons as the Germans surrendered running from the Russians.

I don't think the German people give two shits about your book. Nor should they.
