It was all circumstantial.

Of course it was. What else could it possibly be save a confession? There seems to be this myth perpetuated by the Law and Order type shows that circumstantial evidence is not valid,

I would have had a hard time convicting, especially with his ex-wife testifying in his defense. I've texted my husband before to tell him that I was about to "go Andrea Yates" on our children. It was a joke obviously, but it would look bad in court. I've also Googled how long it takes for a child to overheat in a car because I have crazy anxiety about that and believe that is a mistake that any parent can make.
It is possible the dude didn't do it. With that said if I forgot my kid in the car, I would probably off myself anyway. No way I could live with the guilt.

He forgot to drop the baby off.

I've got a whole herd of kids & have dropped them off at daycare quite frequently. I can unequivocally say that by 22months if I'm not talking to them the whole ride then I can guarantee they sure as hell are babbling non stop.
