THC is a chemical. Keep rambling though.

I have no problem with MJ legalization
The problem is that some here have convinced themselves they live in unicorn fantasy land - a “weed-for-all ailments and entertainment,” society - where marijuana is completey benign, fun, yet an extremely powerfully medicinal substance that is not potentially abused and misused.
Throughout history, alcohol used to be the best medicinal option available for treating disease. It is still useful, and is used recreationally with undeniable cautions associated. Marijuana should be controlled in the same manner for the same reasons.
Is there no reasonable amount concern in this situation where a parent under the influence of marijuana is administering marijuana to his child to treat a serious illness, and that the marijuana is delivered most harmful dosage form?
I know there are responsible smokers here that don’t want someone giving medication to their kid while under the influence of an alcohol or marijuana buzz.
Why didn’t the non-smoking big mouthed mom master a good butter recipe so he wouldn’t have to smoke? It doesn’t sit well with me, imagining Dad smoking a joint then passing it to his son. “Take your meds, son... I’m good.”

Medical marijuana is an absolute winning issue for any politician with the sense to support it.
Hard to win an election when all of the money goes to backing your opponent because you chose that stance. I think you underestimate or misunderstand how elections are actually won.
I’m well aware of the law enforcement and private prison lobby. But money or not, voters overwhelmingly support medical MJ. It’s why it’s been passed in some form in even red states.

I would, without hesitation, do the same thing for one of my children if standard medical treatments didn't work. I would experiment with drops and edibles first, but would try all options. I do have a decided advantage of living in WA.

I will. There's not some grand conspiracy by pharma. There are though, governments who are uneasy about legalizing something that has been illegal for decades and decades
Is this Jake, Jake with Big Pharm? You do sound pretty hideous.

Tell me the dangers of getting too high.

Well it's still far safer then having daily seizures

You ever had stoners at your place? You'll lose all your snacks and it'll be nothing but Nickelodeon and stoner comedies on all day

Yeah. 'Cause it stops her seizures.

I think the real problem is that some people live in a antiquated, scientifically deaf bubble where they still believe that cannabis makes white women go crazy and dance with black fellas. The truth of the matter is that we have a substance that is widely used and supported in the United States that has medicinal value which is being kept from our use due to corruption, ignorance, and inertia, frankly. And the medicinal value of the plant will only be able to be explored through research... which can't be done extensively or to a serious degree until the DEA reschedules it from Schedule 1 (where it joins heroin, LSD, MDMA, peyote, and methaqualone, by the way, and some of those are debatably clinically useful).

Agreed, for the most part.

It's reasonable concern for someone who doesn't know much about marijuana, frankly. That's not exactly your fault. The general public's ignorance of marijuana lies at the feet of the DEA.

I don't know the details of the situation (whether it was a joint, bong, vaporizer, what have you), but if it was just a joint, I tend to agree. There are safer ways of ingestion, though you might also link the ignorance there to the same systematic ignorance caused by DEA Schedule 1 status.

I see the problem. Physicians (pediatricians/neurologists/psychiatrists) are far more likely to possess critical thinking skills.
Therapists are less likely. They just “follow the rules”.

I guess so. But on the other hand, does it matter that much if it’s smoked vs eaten? It’s either safe or not. If it stopped the seizures, then it was a good medicine and what the government is doing is sickening and evil.

Good point.

Duh. But he doesn’t have to smoke it, there are dosage forms better than smoking to treat young kids with marijuana. And dad testing for safety? C’mon people. It’s not that hard to see the inappropriate decisions made by the parents.
Someone asked what are the dangers of smoking? Can’t eat to enough to kill you- but smoking regularly does have well known negative effects. I am for total legalization but there is a huge amount of non biased medical literature on the side effects.
Anticholinergic effects, increased blood pressure, depression, decreased energy, potential for abuse...gynecomastia and decreased reading comprehension definitely.
Marijuana shouldn’t be illegal, but it is not a vitamin that is good for you.
There has to be law, like consequences for DUI and buying pot for minors, etc.

Could you post some evidence of this (genuinely asking)? I'm a regular reader of the research and I don't believe this is actually borne out in it.
The rest of the side effects you list are subject to individual differences and rarely are cause for concern outside of clinical populations.

It’s either safe or not. — Is it safe to set a precedent that parents can prescribe marijuana to their kids for this or other serious conditions? They could have at least acquired appropriate medical supervision and with verified, tested products. Small changes in the marijuana quality could cause seizures just like any other epilepsy med. Why didn’t they just drive twice a year to get legit rx marijuana from a neurologist? If that was the scenario, I’d be more outraged.
If it stopped the seizures, then it was a good medicine and what the government is doing is sickening and evil.
—Seems like states are decriminalizing, discussing, voting about this in the last 5 years than ever.
