LAKELAND, Fla. – George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in the fatal shooting of a Florida teenager in 2012, filed a lawsuit against two presidential candidates, alleging they defamed him.
Zimmerman, who lives in Polk County, filed the lawsuit Tuesday in 10th Judicial Circuit Court. The suit names Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg as defendants.
The suit claims Warren and Buttigieg separately defamed Zimmerman in Twitter statements Feb. 5 recognizing what would have been Trayvon Martin’s 25th birthday. The suit says both did so “for political gain in misguided and malicious attempts to bolster their standings amongst African-American voters, all at Zimmerman’s expense.”
quote:
Zimmerman was a volunteer member of a neighborhood watch group in 2012 when he followed Martin, who was visiting family in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. Martin noticed Zimmerman and confronted him, and a struggle ensued in which Zimmerman fatally shot the teenager.
After being charged with murder, Zimmerman claimed self-defense under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” statute. He was acquitted in a trial in 2013.
On Feb. 5, Buttigieg tweeted, “Trayvon Martin would have been 25 today. How many 25th birthdays have been stolen from us by white supremacy, gun violence, prejudice, and fear?”
The same day, Warren tweeted, “My heart goes out to @SybrinaFulton and Trayvon’s family and friends. He should still be with us today. We need to end gun violence and racism. And we need to build a world where all of our children – especially young Black boys – can grow up safe and free.”
Sybrina Fulton is Martin’s mother.
The 30-page lawsuit includes a long summary of the events leading up to the shooting of Martin.
Zimmerman filed a lawsuit in Polk County in December against Fulton, family lawyer Benjamin Crump, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the state of Florida and others, seeking $100 million in damages.

He's an a-hole.
But, he's correct in this case.
They are knowingly misrepresenting him for political gain.

Poor Zimmerman. The self-appointed cop killed an unarmed man, and has been so mistreated.

Panderer to the ignorant.

Neither tweet mentioned his name. Like every other situation in his life, he looovveess to play the little beta victim card. And time and time again, people (not you, others in this thread) fall for his pity act.

You, and your fellow moron AggieHank, both have serious intellectual disabilities for imagining that they really had to mention GZ's name in a incident so intimately linked. What is really pitiable is how, and so many others, are so willfully ignorant about the facts and still mouth hugging the gross distortions the media portrayed.

He's suing for $265,000,000....I don't think it's unreasonable to think his name should have been used directly to seek out that sort of defamation penalty.
But you go on defending him, kid. I'm sure Georgie boy appreciates your support!

Think of how many gun owners are on the OT. Think of how many of them have a picture somewhere on social media or in their photo album of them showing off their gun. Do you feel the same about those pictures or is it only because this guy was black that it's problematic?
Also, since when is owning a gun or taking a picture with a gun illegal or grounds for vigilante murder? Did Georgie boy know he owned a gun? Had he seen the picture? Of course not....so why do you and your ilk insist on always bringing up that picture?

Of course you don't, you're a peon still weighed down with the emotional baggage you invested into that incident. How many years now, 7? Time for you to move on, kid.

My issue is that more black kids are being murdered in New Orleans as I type this than they have been by white supremacists.

What happened with his other ridiculous lawsuit where he sued for a ridiculous amount of money? I assume nothing?
This guy is the biggest POS to me.
Sort of surprised he hasn't gotten into any more road rage incidents lately.

A black teenager (under the legal age of possession of a handgun at least) who would be in illegal possession of a handgun versus pictures of members here with legal possession? Quite a stretch there, you moron.

vigilante murder
Wow, you truly are stupid if you think this is what happened.

You and your ilk still believing in a false narrative. Pathetic.
