There’s only 1 state in the country where the state and its capital don’t have any of the same letters in their names

You can sail from New York to Florida without ever touching the ocean.

A mountain peak in Ecuador is farther from the center of the earth than Everest.

The Deepwater Horizon (yes that one) drilled closer to the center of the earth than any other point (though the hole drilled by Kola Superdeep Borehole in Russia is about two thousand feet deeper as measured from the surface).

The Mississippi River once flowed backwards after an earthquake.

The lowest point and highest point in the contiguous US are only 88 miles apart.

Bonus fun fact: The dinosaurs roamed the earth for so long that they actually had dinosaur fossils beneath their feet. The last dinosaur lived closer in time to humans than it did the first dinosaurs … by about 112 million years.

Do mean by car if you take a specific route?

I-10 to I-75 to Florida's Turnpike, then take the Homestead Extension to US1.

If you could fly, it would be closer, even if you had to transfer in Miami.

The song "Wagon Wheel" contains a geographical error.

The singer mentions he headed west from the Cumberland Gap to Johnson City, TN. Johnson City is southeast of Cumberland Gap.
