It only blows smoke immediately at start up. Runs fine. Have a fridge and 8000 btu window unit running on it.

If I can get out of my neighborhood tomorrow, I'll change it.

Now I'm nervous again.

That was the last bit of ancient oil that was still liquid.

Have you checked the dipstick? If it's got oil on it and it's not fricking tar then I think it'll make it through the night if you absolutely can't get it changed. Then again I'm not a mechanic.

No dipstick but it is filled right to where it should be. It's not tarry, just a little darker than new.

Yes it’s necessary, and invest in a magnetic dip stick to find out why.

Pretty simple to change the oil. New engines will have a small amount of shavings in the oil.

Until it doesn't. Oil changes aren't just suggestions.

Mines probably run it’s first 20 hours and I didn’t change out the break in oil. Now I’m nervous too.

Do you want it to last?

First oil change at 5h.

Second 24h later.

From then on it's every time I use it or every 24 hours of straight run time.

I run mobil1 0w40 after the first two changes.

nope, not to anyone understands motors and oil. those instructions are in there strictly to protect them from some type of litigation.

I've restored more small engines out of boredom than you've ever run.

A little maintenance goes a very long way.

Yes, you will be amazed at what the oil looks like after just the first couple hours of run time.
Lots of wear metals. You do not want that circulating throughout your engine. I change oil twice in the first 5 hours of a small engine and every 50 hours or annually after that for maximum engine life.

Yes, I've changed the oil in my generator twice since Sunday.
