Yes, you can clean the gunk out of the carb, but a new carb is $15-20. Change the carb, oil, spark plug and air filter. It will be like starting as new.
Never leave gas in the carb again.

You need to rebuild the carb or just replace it. You can try draining the bowl , spraying a shitload of carb cleaner and letting it run out the bottom. Try that a few times. Some bowls have drain screws while some don’t.
Pro tip. Use the petcock to run it completely out of fuel when shutting it off rather than using the kill switch. Do not store it with ethanol fuel in it.

Same thing happened to me. Pull the carburetor and clean it. Carb cleaner, torch cleaning tool, and compressed air.

Carburetor is likely gummed up with that old gas… Carburetor needs to be pulled apart and all orifices cleaned with carb cleaner and blown out with compressed air.
This is your answer. Best money saving options are to buy a new one and install it or clean the one you have. Without having done it before you can YouTube it and knock this out within an hour. Or you can bring it to a repair shop that will change you $200 or more.

Did you turn on the gas valve?

See if the carb bowl has a wire connected to a solenoid switch at the bottom, that is a spring loaded solenoid that cuts off the fuel when the oil level is low. It is spring loaded to the cutoff position when the engine is off. Old fuel will cause the solenoid plunger to stick closed or partially closed. Spray the plunger and work it back and forth.
Many times this will cause a no start condition.

Try spraying ether in the filter and when it starts, if it tries to quit keep squirting ether. Might finally run on its on .Just squirts of ether.

If you will shut the fuel valve OFF and let the engine run until it dies you won't have to worry about gumming up the carb. Also, add Stabil to your gas when storing and you won't have a problem

I’ve had gunk develop in storage tank too. That may be plugged even if the carb is clean.

I’ve done a few things people mentioned. I don’t have time or the tool to take the long bolts out to fully disassemble the carb from the mount. Unless I can use something else.

You need to put a carburetor on it. They are usually really cheap.

Usually just a 10mm socket to take 2 bolts out, some needle nose pliers to unhook the governor and choke cables, and its off.
It's a 5 minute job to take it off if you know what you're doing and 7 minutes if you don't.
You are suffering from carburetor removal denial syndrome. 6 beers should cure it. Take it off, clean it, rod the jets out with a wire brush bristle or something of that nature, put it back together. Itll run like new.

If you are sure the gas is on and it won’t run or will only run choked or partially choked drop the bowl on the carb and clean the main jet…It’s the little brass fitting in the bottom of the bowl with a tiny hole in it. Run a piece wire thru the hole. Reassemble and that will probably do it. Careful to preserve the gasket between the bowl and carb body. Also be careful to not knock the float off. You can make sure the float moves up and down freely.

This WORKED! Originally I’d spray the carb cleaner once and it would start for two seconds then kill. I continuously hit it for like 15 seconds, and it started to run on its own! Thx!

Did you use it this year for Hurricane? All that and draining gas won’t matter If you haven’t started since 2021. Gas has gunked up carburetor. Always run gas out and use ethanol free. I start my 3 times a year and run 20 minutes regardless.

I have a storm responder as well. I see you got it to run, awesome. But seriously, buy a spare carburetor off Amazon for like $25 and keep it on hand. You can change it in 5 minutes and it fires right up. Have done this twice since Gustav
