She's not wrong. Welcome to adulthood. She comes across as pretty grounded.
We worked our asses off to barely scrape by, too.
And yes, we now have 20 years under our belts, but 20 years ago we weren’t taking ‘mental health day’ and playing on our phones all day.
We do that now, but everyone does.

Wrong bitch. 20 years ago I lived with two roommates to split rent and ate cheap shitty food like Ramen noodles, pastas, canned meats, and Totino''s. But dumb bitch is right about one thing, twenty years later with 20 years of experience under my belt, getting raise after raise, I do not live like that anymore.
Such a dumb short-sighted entitled bitch.

Unfulfilling work plus nothing to really show for it wears on people.

Meh, she works a minimum wage job.
20 years ago a full time minimum wage job paid 210 bucks a week before taxes/deductions.
There's no way in hell I could live on my own at like ~12k a year in 2004.

You can think she is wrong, entitled, or whatever while also acknowledging that things are gonna suck financially for our young people if things don’t change.
Wages haven’t increased in concert with inflation and cost of living.
I’m 40 and paid 340k for a 4200 sq ft house. Same exact floor plan in my neighborhood just went for 650 last month (8 years later)
Starter homes are 200+ with higher rates than I have. Rent is insane. Insurance is insane. Food is insane.
As a parent, I feel for my kids. When my wife and I got married we found hourly jobs before we got into careers, moved into an apartment, and lived ok. I’m just not sure that path is available right now and the path to where my wife and I are currently is almost nonexistent for most

Hate to tell you sweetheart but 35 years ago...when I worked at Walmart...it didn't pay enough to live on your own either.
It's where I worked while getting an education/skills to make it on my own.
And yes, I also worked 40 hours a week while doing it.

That being said, dollars to donuts they vote to attempt to take any retirement income I have in the future as a high earner.
Idk why this is such a popular talking point considering the most popular retirement account is taxed at the highest marginal rates, and when RMDs begin kicking in you are going to be paying a shitton in taxes if you have a high balance.
The way the current law works, you're retirement account already IS being "taken away".

She's not wrong, but she also probably shouldn't consider Walmart a career job.
I don’t think she’s considering it a career job.

These kids are the largest voting bloc now. If they ever decide to actually vote, Bernie and AOC will be running the country. Nobody else seems to give a shite about their issues.

No they aren't. Not even close.

Find a good man and settle down. Have a few kids, be a mom. Much more satisfying than working at Walmart.

In 2005, I was a general manager at a pizza place (national chain) and no, I could not afford to comfortably live on my own. I probably could have if I had to, but it would not have been comfortably.
What are the odds that she’s a manager?

Back in the day, a non college educated person could usually work themselves into a middle class lifestyle doing a non highly skilled job.
That seems to be gone. Housing and inflation plus education costs, insurance and auto prices are killing the lower middle class.
The rich get richer.
The poor get more handouts.
The working lower and middle class get frickedddd

Boomers were the last generation to have it good from an economic standpoint. You didn't have to waste $50k in college before you could find a decent job. (Most people didn't go to college then). It was the last generation where you could live a middle class life on one income.
