GE top load washer won't agitate. Screw it, bought a Speed Queen

Have the front cover off and it appears as if the clutch isn't allowing the basket to agitate. It makes a loud clicking sound then locks in place. Motor seems to be wanting to agitate the basket back and forth but it seems as if the clutch is stopping it. When it comes time for the spin cycle you can hear the clutch disengaging and it spins up just fine.

I have a GE top load washer that will agitate but won't spin. Same thing with the clutch - loud click but everything locks down. Agitate works just fine though.
I disconnected the belt and the motor seems to be working fine. I'm guessing it's something wrong with the clutch or maybe something stuck between the baskets. I didn't have the right tools to take everything apart this weekend.
Hopefully you can figure out what's wrong - our problems seem related.

Have you tried running it empty or disconnecting the belt to see if everything runs smoothly then?

Sounds like it's agitating you just fine

It's an agitatorless washer.

GE top load washer won't agitate. Will spin though
Have your wife spend half an hour with it, if women can teach anything it's how to agitate.

This happened to mine last year, after 15 hrs and $100 in parts I threw it away and bought a new one.
My advise - Throw it away

all washing machine agitate. Most of them don't have an agitator though. Heading to Amite to buy a Speed Queen. frick Stantons Ace. They wanted $899 and wouldn't come off their price. Their parking lot was empty. Brandons Appliance in Amite wants $769 for the exact same machine

why not just get a good reliable mid 80s maytag set off craigslist instead?
LINK
bet you can get them down to $100 for the w/d set and every bit as good as a speed queen.
plus you can work on these easily.

You're just as bad as Gaston with his belly aching about SUVs. No one gives a shite about your old appliances.

Brandons on Amite had 25 of them in stock. Had it in the dolly waiting for me. $150 less than Stantons Ace in BR.
