I use it all the time. Figure out what broke, get the part number and head to Amazon.

in all seriousness, most washer & dryer repairs are crazy easy on older machines.

the hardest thing i had to do was reglue some damper pads on my maytag washer which took me all day to get the old glue/residue off but i shouldn't have to do it again for another 30 years

Heading to Amite to buy a Speed Queen. frick Stantons Ace. They wanted $899 and wouldn't come off their price. Their parking lot was empty. Brandons Appliance in Amite wants $769 for the exact same machine

I could have used this info a few months back. Google showed only place in BR was stantons. I would have driven to Amite to save $150.

Sounds like the agitator dogs. Cheapest fix there is. YouTube is putting appliance repair guys in a bind.

no shite. my washer was dancing around the laundry room like a jack fricking russell terrier and the fix was a $15 set of felt pads & silicon grease.

however..napoleon priced the repair at $400

i watched a couple videos & tackled it myself..most of the pain/frustration is having to get all the old residue and junk off so after spending pretty much 6 hours on it and going through almost an entire can of goof-off and an entire pack of shop rags i understand why they charge so much.

but it felt awesome to put it back together & have it run like new again...and it gave me a chance to clean all the soap-scum reside that built up around the tub and under the top lid

I hate those washers. Sounds like a bad mode shifter, they have a longer factory warranty, many times a customer has gotten a free one from GE, they are $206 from them.

Anybody can change agitator dogs, not everyone can diagnose a modern appliance and know ehich of the three $200 control boards is bad.

Crazy about dogs, I charge what i think is too much for them, but much less than the $135 quoted on the blue book. They are a $5 part, but note only Whirlpool and Kenmore use them. (and of course Whirlpool brands)

That was the blue book of what to charge for the job, I don't use the blue book. I would have been closer to $200. Yeah man, we gotta eat, lol.

I had a dinner with the owner of the number #3 guy in the area and he was shocked about my prices, so I may need to go up to bluebook prices too. I am just one who thinks our field overcharges.

I give away free advice on five forums so I don't care about spreading knowledge.

..and six hours would cost a hell of a lot more than $400.

If I lived near I'd buy it. tired of seeing my neighbor fix stuff for $3 and sell for good money. Fixed a push mower someone gave him. He played with it for 10 mins and sold it for 75. He does that at least 2x a month. Fixes tvs he picks up on trash day frequently and sometimes sells for hundreds of dollars.

I've always had problems with GE appliances. Kenmore/whirlpool appliances have been awesome.

I've changed out dogs and pumps on the washer. Timer (used on eBay), heating element and switch on the dryer. Less than $100.00 in parts. Those jobs would have cost upwards of a $1,000.00 had I called someone out for each repair...and they all were isolated incidents. I troubleshoot as much as I can through YouTube and the rest of the Internet. Never changed out control panels.
