Yes. As Catholics believe the Eucharist is the actual body and blood of Jesus Christ, giving communion to a person in a state of mortal sin is downright sacrilege. If the priest knows of this mortal sin, it is his duty to refuse communion to the person or else risk endangering his own immortal soul.

And this somehow makes it okay for him to be given the host while living in a state of mortal sin? The priest knew he was gay, knew he was married to his lover, and therefore knew the man was not sorry for living in a state of mortal sin.
If the priest would have gone ahead and given him the Eucharist anyway, that puts the priest in a state of mortal sin.

I don't know if or how they rationalize such behaviors. It is my personal belief that any priest or bishop or cardinal who violates their vows (whether that be by molesting boys or sexing up grown men/women) should be defrocked.

He could simply have abstained from communion, as many do. And he could have accepted the blessing without running out to call the media.

I've been to weddings funerals and regular mass where priest regularly states that if you are not in a state of grace, don't receive communion.

You keep saying this but it's not true. There are many many gay people in the Church. There are ZERO SSMs in the Church. You're smart enough to know the difference, I think.
He moved away from the Church. The Church did not move away from him.

Reading that story, there seem to be a lot of gay people in that family. I don't know of a single gay person in my entire extended family, including both parents siblings and cousins and my siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. I've never thought about that fact before.

Kind of like how Jesus would hang out with sinners instead of keeping it down home with the righteous, huh? The Church is a hospital for sinners. If a murderer or a rapist comes to the Church with a heart looking to repent and and a soul looking for forgiveness, the Church does not deny that to them. However, it is a different story when a man walks into church with his husband, presenting his sin to the world as well as presenting his desire not to repent for that sin.
Christ loved sinners but he also commanded them to sin no more once he had forgiven them of those sins. This man clearly continues to sin, no matter the fact that he is law abiding.

Did anyone here actually read the article? The church didn't exactly back up this priest's actions.
