Get the Stihl KM-130. The thing is a beast and the attachments for edging, tree trimming, blower, hedge trimming,,etc was a lot less than buying standalone units for each. I've had mine for 7-8 years now and only had to change the plug and replace the carb.

Husqvarna trimmers are just Wal-mart Poulan trimmers with an orange cover.
I bought it because at the time their products came highly recommended to me. Since then, I've heard nothing but how their quality has severely dipped.

The Echo SRM-230 is the highest rated straight shaft trimmer by Consumer Reports.
Guess it's because the muffler has a catalytic converter in it so it gets way hotter than other trimmers.
BTW- Homeowners. Only use Trufuel in your 2 stroke equipment. Cost a shite ton more but you won't even go through 3 cans in a season and your equipment will run forever without ever having carb gumming issues like when you use Non Ethanol gasoline.

I'm not talking about a husqvarna you buy at a big box store. I'm talking about one from a dealer that sells high grade stuff. If you must go with a lower quality unit from a big box, echo from home depot

Just bought an Echo PAS225 and it's a beast. Came with an edger. I'll get the blower attachment next. I've been using TruFuel in it and I don't think I'll ever go back to mixing oil and gas myself.

I've had my $199 Stihl since 2008, and had zero problems.
Use ethanol free gas, buy extra string, ????, profit.

It is a bit heavy but not too bad. I only do mine and moms yard but if I had a lawn business I would look for something lighter.

I love my Husqvarna 224L 4-stroke. Dad borrowed it once, was impressed, and then bought his own. Very high reviews online. I think 224L has been replaced by model 967055801 but should be same quality. Good weight to power ratio, starts every time. Just use non-EtOH gas, replace oil once a year and should be reliable for > 10 yrs.

Redmax is the best for sure

Neither. Shindiawa is hands down better than either one of these.
Yes echo bought shindiawa. I am presently using my shindiawa I bought brand new in 1999 when I bought my house. Replaced the head, filter and spark plugs. Runs and has power like a new one.

It doesn't really matter. a ~25cc 2-stroke from any brand is roughly analogous to a ~25cc 2-stroke from another brand. They're generally all priced pretty close and perform similarly.

I have had my Echo for 8 years. I just did the first maintenance on it myself...rebuilt the carb and also replaced the fuel lines. I also took off the string guard. Taking off the guard makes the string last a WHOLE LOT longer.

Echo for 2-stroke, and Stihl for 4-stroke. I prefer 2-stroke because they wind up faster, but a lot of people don't like mixing fuel, so whatever floats your boat
