An oxygen tank illegally placed in a trashcan caused an explosion in a Whitehall garbage truck Wednesday, according to a Facebook post from the city.
As a garbage worker was loading trash on the 4000 Block of Elbern Avenue, a fireball blew out the back of the truck, scattering trash in the roadway and starting a fire inside the truck. One of the truck's workers quickly grabbed a fire extinguisher and began putting out the flames. Both of the garbage workers were okay, according to a statement from Whitehall

3 seconds earlier when he had just dumped the first can and he would have probably been seriously injured/blinded or killed. He moved just enough back and to his left to grab the second can to get out of the direct line of fire. Not his time to go.

They still have garbagemen manually dumping cans in the back...
Interesting. Haven't had them for years here. All mechanized with the driver being the only dude on the truck.

As a previous dweller of the Greater Bawcomville Metroplex, the Bawcomites driving one of those trucks would cause more in property damage than actual garbage collected.

Yeah, garbage truck fires are nothing to mess around with if it spreads inside the container. Thankfully he was cognizant enough to extinguish the fire.
