Is the swisstraxx easy to clean and keep clean?

Mine is; I have the Ribtrax so small stuff & water just falls down between the openings. When I want to clean it, I just use my Shop Vac & it gets most of the stuff underneath (you really can't see it anyway but I'm anal about it )

I can't speak for the other surfaces they sell.

bump.

would like to start on this project soon on my garage floor, but wanted some opinions.

Am I ok for this job just by getting the kit at home depot? i have your standard 2 car garage with a step up.

Based on the second post in this thread, I would say no.

That's the only odd thing you noticed about my garage? Did you completely miss the 2 yellow motion activated flashers I put up?

They did mine, live in BR. 10-year warranty. Looks great.

Highly recommend.

I saw your strobe lights.

Did you notice in the picture that a rare blonde long-haired Athabascan wolf had snuck in and was posed to strike?

If you just want to "paint your floor grey", go ahead with the home depot /lowes kits. If you are going for a professional look, stay away.

CAD...having read your posts and now seeing your garage I want to have a beer with you . You have to be an interesting guy . Also, solid tool box. Got the same one a few months ago.

I have DIY 3 times.

First time, not too good.
Second time, was decent.

Third time, perfect.

The deal is too prepare the floor as per directions, let it totally dry.

Use the kit, let dry.

Go over the whole thing with clear epoxy.

It will take 7 days, start to finish. You will get excellent results, but only if you do the prep work and give it plenty of time to cure.

Egg, that is the kit I used.

3 car garage, so I needed two kits.

Disagree.

Epoxy, done correctly, wears like iron.

IMHO..... if you are going to spend days doing the prep work, spend a few hundred more dollars for high-end coatings. Also, if you are going to do a clear topcoat, epoxy isnt what you want. Polyurea or polyaspartic will both hold up better, and will not yellow like clear epoxy will.

Epoxy should be part of the system, but not the topcoat.

I don't disagree, that in a heavy commercial environment, that would be the way to go. I will probably do that in my detached garage.

It was hard to find kits like that set up for a smaller-scale homeowner garage.

I'm not too concerned with yellowing b/c I went over a colored floor, plus that takes a long time to occur.

I think the DIY kits will provide good results if the DIY'er is patient and really follows all the prep and curing times. They usually don't though.

It was an epoxy kit. You put it on and then within a certain amount of time, you went over it with a clear epoxy topcoat. The clear was an additional option not part of the basic kit.

And here's the rub....you'll have to take everything out of your garage and store it in a Pod type unit so you have to figure in the cost of that too. With SwissTrax you'll be done COMPLETELY and your garage back together in a half a day.

You're 100% right about the prep work. After having done about 8 of these, it's usually why I tell friends to use the home depot kits if they want a weekend project. If you are really going to do the days worth of prep work to get it right, then I say spend the money on good coatings. I just can't stomach using $3k worth of my time and then a $200 kit lol.
