It is due to the recent floods....why not include that pertinent info?!?!?!
You'd think people were smart enough to figure this part out even if it wasn't in the story. But it was in the story for fricks sake!

The water coming out of the faucet smells vaguely of sewage across north and east Texas these days.

We've been on bottled water here for 2 months now. All the rural septic systems and pastures getting flooded into the lakes and water supply.

Surprised it hasn't been in the news more but it's gross.

ETA there was just a story on the radio today about a surge of bacterial/intestinal infections due to this.

Ahhh.....my favorite WWL news quote. An upstanding citizen of New Orleans was told he was watering in an area with dangerous levels of fecal material.

"I don't mind swimmin with the fecals."

I don't get why people get so hung up on sand and water color. Never been to Galveston but just saying.

when people come to visit me in Houston from Louisiana they always ask if Galveston is worth the 45 minute drive down there to see the beaches.

my response, "frick no, it's the ugliest beach you'll ever see. not worth the time or the effort"

seems as if i was right all along.

While I agree Galveston is pretty bad, it's no worse than any of those shite holes they call beaches on the east coast.

what

They're real beaches. If you want to sit on your arse all day drinking Corona and pretending you're somewhere in the Carribean then yea, you should stick to Destin. Gulf beaches are good for nothing but looking at, and that gets old after about 10 minutes.

The beaches here on the east coast of florida have white powdery sand. Some have conquina sand that's more pink. What's confusing you is the tidal range. Half the sand is always wet and packed, making it look darker, but the dry sand will be white and soft. But that's what makes us able to actually USE the beach to walk, run, ride a bike, and drive on to. It creates a totally different dynamic.
