Don't have labs done Woman's hospital. My daughters dr ordered her to have some blood work done at woman's hospital (from pediatric clinic just across street) and she specifically asked if it would be covered on with the co-pay on our plan with BCBS, and the dr said it Would be. Well low and behold we get the bill in the mail for nearly 400 dollars for the lab and insurance is telling us an "outpatient hospital's lab" is subject to the deductible. So maybe this advice can save you a few dollars.

Tl;dr if the dr orders you to have lab work and you have BCBS go to labcorp or quest and it will be covered.

Try working with the billing service to see if it can be charged differently.

I've had the exact opposite experience actually. We got an exorbitant bill from LabCorp saying nothing was covered. Called them and explained what the eob said, so they re-billed BCBS and it went through just fine.

You should call the doctor about it, maybe they can do something so the insurance will cover it.

Just went through something similar for the genetic blood work we did for my pregnant wife, except our bill was more like $9k when we were told it wouldn't cost us more than $100. The doc's office said it happens fairly regularly and they sent the insurance company more info and the bill magically went away. The whole system is BS

The point of that story was to not pay that bill and contact your doc. You shouldn't be paying anymore than they say you should.

ETA: slackster, LabCorp is who sent us the comically large bill too.

Also, fwiw, asking your doctor about what is covered and how it's covered is a terrible idea. Call the people who will be paying the bill next time.

I read this as the lab work is covered and subject to copay after the deductible is met. So, if she hasn't met the deductible then she will have to do that first. That said, if she had a baby 8 weeks ago, she has more than likely met and exceeded the deductible for the year. So she needs to fight that shite with BCBS and the hospital, if I understand what you are saying. My kiddo had to have a lot of bloodwork done in his first six weeks and we didn't pay a lot for it. It was done at Woman's on orders from Ped Clinic as well.

The bill we got from LabCorp was like $425. Once it was covered and billed properly BCBS paid like $23, which pisses me off.

If you'd bill me what you accepted from BCBS, I'd have gladly paid the bill. Billing some made up number just in case someone pays it is stupid.

Yea, we had 10 test run. The bill they sent was for almost $20k of which we were supposedly responsible for $9k. I have no idea where they dreamed these numbers up, as the testing facility said with no insurance the cost was around $100 per test. But I'm sure there's the occasional sucker that pays it and lines some a-hole's pocket.
