Does anybody know where one can find a tarp in New Orleans at the moment? Thanks in advance.

quote:. My bad. Tarping the whole roof vs tarping just where the damage is. I could kick myself for not tarping my whole roof. I had to fight my insurance to have them repair the entire roof.
Which part?

This is great info about the blue tarp program, it doesn’t appear to be active yet though

Last year Delta completely damaged our roof. State Farm replaced it. We didn’t have to tarp it before they came but said if we didn’t tarp it after they made the assessment that we would be responsible for future damage to our house.

Please let me know if you do, or no anyone who is doing them in Kenner. Parents rough in Kenner needs tarping. We have the tarp just no latter high enough to get on the roof..

I've had tons of people come into the office over the last few weeks. Every paragraph you have someone has complained about, and rightfully so.
The insurance company is going to pay you pennies on the first estimate. They want you to do the work before they pay you anything more. The reason there are so many hurricane lawsuits is because people can't afford to pay the contractor to finish the job before the insurance company pays. Then once you do get the money from the insurance company you have to fight your mortgage company to release the funds.
Don't allow the contractor to talk to your insurance company or for that matter even see the estimation. They will only want to do the work on the estimation and refuse to do any other work that the insurance company hasn't paid for.
If you decide to do work that is not included on the estimation, get a change order or separate bid. If not, it becomes everyone's best guess as to whether the contractor did the correct amount of work (especially if you fire them before completion), or whether you should pay him more than what the insurance covered.
Do not sign a contract with a contractor that insists he will do it for only what the insurance company will pay. He won't. They look for the quick payday and run or do half arse work to pass off as complete so they can pocket the amount of money they know you received. If they can't provide a bid without the insurance estimation, they're probably going to rip you off.
Another thing to consider is the workers that are working are probably inexperienced and have little clue to what they're doing. A lot of contractors have told clients they are leaving the area, not because of lack of work, but because of lack of laborers.
To be clear, this is not referred to all contractors, mostly just the carpetbagger ones.

Before hiring a tarping company, contact your insurer. Some companies actually have contracts for tarpers. My home was tarped by my insurance company the morning after Laura.

It's not less than honest.
You call it what you want. Tarping an entire roof that doesn't need it to get a bigger insurance settlement is deception and soft fraud.
If you feel the ends justify the means, knock yourself out.

Shut up
People like you and ambulance chasing attorneys are the reason La. has ridiculously high insurance rates. In the end, we all pay. No one gets anything over an insurance company. They will get their pound of flesh from us all.
Challenge them straight up if you feel they are not being fair. I for one, am not a fan of deception to get a few extra bucks on a settlement.
Fraud away my brother.

What about getting a public adjuster instead?

Overall a waste of money IMO and should only be used as a last resort at the advice of your attorney.
There are a few posters here (I won't name names) that were about to do that and I helped them get everything they deserved without a PA. We fought and went through 3 or 4 field adjusters and a few desk adjusters but in the end, they were more than taken care of and saved the high PA fees. You just need a competent contractor that knows storm repair and how to use Xactimate.

Good stuff stout. I mentioned Serve-pro in another thread. Worst one I know of was an elderly lady they hit with a $70k bill.

Yes but I am not 100% I will be helping with more than roofs and water intrusion. All of my rehab crews are still slammed in LC with interior work.

Not even close but keep trolling.

Yea I do that a lot and very rarely do I not get what is justified and then some. I know you are trolling (at a shitty time for people needing info no less) so I won't continue the argument with you.

Serv-Pro was charging people for 24/7 equipment monitoring at a supervisor rate with no one on-site, charging for PPW equipment for 12 guys when only 2 on-site, etc. Just tons and tons of fraud to pump up their billing.
That's why you DO NOT let them or anyone besides you or your attorney deal directly with your insurance company so you can keep them honest.

Yea telling people that have no fkn clue the extent of damage to their roof to not just cover where they think damage is because it could come back to bite them when reality hits and lead to issues with insurance after the fact, is soo dishonest. Stfu dude, go virtue signal on fb.
It's practically good advice to cover the whole roof, regardless of the insurance implications.
